Those who remember the song by punk rock legends, Offspring, called ‘The Kids Aren’t All Right’, will certainly agree that the ANC Youth League may as well have been the subject of the piercing name and lyrics.
The newly formed Friends of the Youth League is of course the embodiment of this, as a platform for their disgraced former leaders was created with one purpose in mind... to keep Julius Malema in the limelight in order for his support to be maintained, or even boosted, in anticipation of the Mangaung Conference in December 2012.
I recently learned of the Youth League’s hijacking of the Thaba-Chweu Municipality, which amongst others include Sabie, Graskop and Lydenburg.
According to an insider’s report, they forced everyone from the municipal buildings, and used words like “...I’m telling you to switch off your computer and go home, before things get serious...”
Subsequently, the municipal offices only re-opened on the 2nd of July 2012, after having been closed for days.
I’m not sure what their reasons were, but could certainly speculate as to a couple... the one being the assertion of power, the other being factional fighting. Whatever it was, the fact remains that they are becoming violent and rebellious.
This type of behaviour reminds of the Gestapo tactics employed by the Nazi’s before they rose to power, together with the likes of most other autocratic African states that followed suit since then, before falling into the hands of their slow sinking (could also be German for 'thinking') leader.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not a believer of the failed state scenario in South Africa, although many would want to predict such a travesty. What is glaringly obvious is that the Youth League simply doesn’t get what it means to live in a free country, and isn’t the least bit interested in liberating anyone economically.
They kind of remind me of those kids you see in the accused bench every now and again for murdering their parents because they wanted the life insurance money.
Nothing but dead greed flashes in the little runt’s eyes as they give the Magistrate their bored and irate teen pose whilst proceedings are underway.
Quite fittingly, one line in the Offspring song’s chorus is “...nothings free...”
Not the land, nor the mines... nor the country... young rebels. It seems then that the term ‘child soldier’ is actually making its way to our shores as most 25 year old Youth League supporters may as well have been 10.
The main difference between the Nazi’s and the Youth League though, is vested in the one’s ability to ensure success after the conflict and being the most advanced nation of the time, build a new world order, albeit based on evil deeds... I suppose you know who I’m not referring to here...
Change is what this country needs, and change is what it will receive... the problem arises when the window for change is sprung by someone else, like the Youth League, or the type of person who supports them, someone quite like the following...
Your standard Youth League supporter is normally part of the non-contributing jobless masses, with little to no education, and with aspirations higher than the U.S Presidency. In fact, their hopes for a better life have surpassed the need to actually look, and eventually do any form of work.
Because they aren’t looking for jobs and would snub any career where they’ll actually have to do some work, they now become soldiers in the army of their Furher, on the quest to conquer South Africa from the weak, the old...the ANC.
They’ve witnessed cadre deployment by the ANC, and learnt a thing or two from their parents. Why work if you can just be a rebel, and be deployed when you hit 40...?
Most youth League supporters are only a couple of years away from the big four zero in anyway, so no need to start working now, you’ll just run Limpopo in 5 years!
If there’s one thing Hitler could do well, it was to convince people that he was their saviour, and managed to get people to do unspeakable things, they normally wouldn’t have done. Malema may not be so charismatic a leader as the real Furher...yet... but he’s definitely on his way to becoming one.
He has all the traits, and now that he’s becoming a martyr in the political arena, he is ready to transform from beret wearing instigator, to uniform sporting commandant... with a legion at his feet, ready to do whatever he pleases... simply because they have nothing better to do.
The kids, are far from all right in this country, as they’ve been possessed by something far worse than sex, drugs and rock & roll...yet I really hoped it would have been as innocent as that...
