The Metrorail Watchdog is concerned about the health and Safety of commuters making use of Metrorail

17 March 2014, 16:13
The Metrorail Watchdog would like to know from Metrorail what they are going to do to ensure the health and safety of its commuters making use of their services on a daily basis. This comes after the Metrorail Watchdog received numerous complains from commuters. This complains and pictures were submitted to Prasa and no feedback was received on the correspondence submitted to them.According to the founder of the Metrorail Watchdog, Adrian Maytom the Lanwen Station near Krugersdorp is currently being utilized as an illegal dumping site.“Health risks posed by illegal dumping are frightening. The Municipality Watchdog believes children who play in open areas containing dumped waste are at risk of being injured by broken glass, sharp pieces of metal or other dangerous items in the waste.“Also, perishable waste like discarded food creates an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. This property is also a hiding place for criminals and people in the area busy with illegal activities. The Municipality Watchdog would like to see the CEO of Prasa (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa), Mr Tshepo Lucky Montana   to intervene and to implement a strategy to keep commuters safe and look after their health whist they are waiting for the train to arrive. We would also like more staff to be deployed to stations to ease the congestion of passengers.Public toilet facilities must be available to its commuters, whilst cleaning is outsourced to a reliable company. This will ensure stations and platforms will be kept clean on a daily basis. Please let us know if you experiencing any problems with Metrorail’s service and sign our petition below:-For More information don’t hesitate to contact:André Pieterse on 082 640 1051 or Adrian Maytom on  082 632 7760, email maytomadrian@gmail.com You can follow the Metrorail Watchdog on Twitter and Facebook.
