As a boy who grew up in the rural-urban areas of Mpumalanga, growing up marijuana has always been shunned upon by the elder community, but ignorantly so, because the people trust our government so wholeheartedly they never question its legality.
The manner in which most people in our country react to “dagga”, an awful sounding name they gave to it, is as negative as the name suggests. The ignorance towards marijuana is not a blissful one, it leads people to hate the plant & the people who use it. The problem is that some people think it’s a hard drug like heroin when it is safer to use than alcohol. It is a recreational drug like alcohol, with pleasant side-effects such as heightened appetite, relaxation & in some it encourages creativity.
Like anything really, it requires discipline to be used. Too much of even the best things will destroy you, what government is saying by keeping marijuana illegal is that they don’t trust you with yourself in essence. There are 0 recorded deaths due to the use of marijuana in our country & only God knows how many people die due to the use of alcohol & tobacco on a yearly basis in our country & those are the drugs our government trusts the people with.
They say “God made grass & man made alcohol, who do you trust ?” & the truth of the matter is that marijuana is only illegal because our government doesn’t know how it would profit from it through tax, because everyone would grow their own & pharmaceutical companies will lose money thanks to the many medicinal uses of marijuana.
