The Religious Scientist

18 July 2014, 09:32
I found this gem of a comment from David Thegiantslayer which brilliantly sums up the theistic stance
"... the very statement that scientists cannot be religious or that the religious cannot be scientists is a false dichotomy. There are indeed many scientists who are Christian, Bhuddist, Muslim, etc. Who do you think was the first to publish the theory of Calculus? And then a proposition for how gravity causes interaction between bodies of mass?Or do you think that somehow James Maxwell Clerk developed his theory on the electromagnetic nature of light in a secret atheistic mode?If you call yourself a scientist then you should be open to the idea that there are other possibilities then your rather simplistic proposal that science and religion are exclusive "
And another brilliant, brilliant post by same author on creation vs evolution :
"Christians who believe in a six day creation do not believe that the Darwinian evolutionary theory holds any water. In fact they believe that that theory is simply the religious believe of the atheist. The theory of evolution does not meet the strict requirements of the scientific method and so it cannot be classified as a scientific endeavour at all.So: Just because we do not agree with your favourite story of origins does not mean we cannot apply scientific thought to our daily activities.Atheists like to use this sleight of hand: If you don't believe OUR evolutionary theory then you're against all that science stands for and you're condemned to be a stupid idiot that needs to evolve some brain cells or such like..."
The best summation I've read ever
