The Vemma scam

12 June 2014, 11:08
Vemma is a multi-level marketing company that sells energy drinks, nutritional beverages, and weight maintenance supplements. The company is based in Scottsdale, Arizona in the United States and was founded by Benson K., Lauren, and Karen Boreyko.
The company has recently branched out to South Africa, and is promising young people the opportunity to make easy money. Multi-level marketing is a business model that compensates it's sales force not only for their personal sales but also for the sales of the people that they recruit. It is a pyramid scheme at its most basic form.
The South African branch is run by Clifton Braun a self proclaimed network marketing guru who has previous links to an alleged pyramid scheme company. Clifton and his sub ordinates target young people with a drive to succeed and arms them with a strong sales pitch to push their products. This sales force is known as Vemma affiliates, these affiliates will desperately try to lore you to their meetings in hopes of recruiting you to join their movement. They call it the young people revolution (YPR) and operate it like a cult.
Affiliates become so wrapped up in Vemma that they drop out of school, quit their day job, and alienate everyone around them by seeing them just as another dollar sign. The situation has become so bad that every Wednesday affiliates have a mass gathering at Edgemead in Cape Town to attract potential buyers.
South Africans are struggling financially as is and a opportunity such as this gives people false hope. Let's be real, most South Africans won't have the skillset to make a success out of this business. The way it is set up is so the people at the top will make massive profit and those at the bottom who are genuinely doing this to earn an extra income will lose out. It creates a leakage in the South African economy and pumps profits directly into Vemma's pockets. Let's stand against this injustice and make people aware of this scam before it ruins lives.

Gangs in Durban

Like most people who watched Carte Blanche this Sunday, I was flabbergasted by the comments of Brigadier Sayers, who stated that there are no gang activities in Wentworth. That the four drive-by shootings that occurred on Christmas day were just part of general festive activities. Read more...
