The battle of the selfies

27 February 2014, 12:37

Yesterday we were treated to the budget speech and we can only hope that all ministers will treat the budgets allocated to them with the respect due.  On a much lighter note, the trend of uploading selfies on social network sites has taken the these sites by storm.

While I concede I have seen some flattering selfies from ladies - I cannot say the same for the male species.  We love the fact that some men have evolved and are putting more of an effort in how they present themselves.  However it is my opinion that some of the male selfie taking bunch are taking it to a whole new level.  We have gotten used to the idea of them carrying man bags, getting manicures, wearing pink shirts and sharing facial products – Do we have to participate in the battle of the selfies as well? I’m yet to see a proper selfie of a man and if you really must have one the pouting, and trying to be cute is a no, no.

I feel the same way about grown men wearing big colourful caps, skinny jeans and sneakers to the workplace or anywhere else for that matter but that is a topic for another day.  Before my skinny jean wearing, pouting brothers retaliate I will admit upfront that my kind is not perfect and we have been guilty of adorning unsavory attire at times but in the words of Steve Biko, I write what I like.
