THE BUS AND DOG
During the 1990,s I had these two dogs: they were self-made Chihuahuas and ruled the roost plus the house and its inmates all thrown in for good measure.
There was something about these dogs that I could just not underpin. If I was in a room and intended to get up and go to the kitchen they would do it a short time before me and wait in the kitchen for me. If I was in the kitchen and meaning to go out via the back door then they would be waiting for me there.
Dogs just do not spit: spit here is defined as a blob of phlegm blasted out of the mouth with a phwee and usually aimed at a target. One evening my wife was preparing supper and fried fish was on the menu. The two dogs hung around, getting into her way and being a nuisance. They wanted fish and there was no argument about it whatsoever. Eventually the wife gave in and cooled two small pieces and handed it down to the mutts. A few seconds later I heard this phwee sound and a movement caught my eye. It was a piece of fish in flight. Immediately after that another piece hit the airways. Chihuahuas do not eat fish, fish cannot fly, dogs do not spit even if they appear to do so.
The dogs had a taste for those little pink toffees kept in a candy bottle. It was their treat and god help anyone who partakes of those niceties. The domestic was told to help herself because she had kids at home and the toffees could not last long in the bottle. So she walked up to them and then she took some. The dogs must have being eyeing this operation because they went berserk, trying to bite the domestic and recover their goods.
Then there was the bus: this is one of those cases where I was left completely in the dark and could never find a solution. At the time I was working shifts on the mine. At the end of the night shift busses would load the worker and take them back to town. There were about 4 busses running the route and when reaching the town would veer off to the different stops. My house was on a terrace and looked down onto the bus as it disgorged the passengers. The busses were selected randomly and I had no choice of a bus to take but simply checked who the driver was because the drivers used the same routes. Some of the busses passed my house but never stopped there. Drivers usually used the same bus on the same route.
When my bus stopped at the bus stop the dogs went crazy, barking and being noisy, trying to wake the world up. The dogs could not see the bus or anyone alighting the bus yet they were always spot on with the correct bus. The busses were all the same make and sounded the same. I have no explanation to describe the dogs behaviour.
