The devil made me do it!

13 February 2014, 08:25
"We believe they were not in control of their actions. The devil is real, if you open the door he will come in."  This was a comment made by one of the killers of Kirsty Theologo.

She believes the sentence given by the judge "wasn't fair."

Here's a quick headsup:1. Murdering someone isn't fair.2. Bashing someone on the head and then setting them alight, isn't fair or right.3. What person in their right mind imagines that by murdering someone, you are going to gain some sort of infernal, otherworldly power?  How stupid do you have to be to consider that there may be some merit in such garbage, yes, even if you are influenced by hocus pocus and horroscopes.

It's ironic that when a lot of religious folks do bad thing, it;s the devil's fault.  Equally, when they do good things, "to God be the glory."  Some sporting heroes also credit God with their "good luck."

So I wonder if anyone can explain this to me.  If "good" is thanks to God, and bad is the devil, where does human will, choice, discipline, values, morals or even beliefs come into play?  It sounds to me like people are just a soccer game of souls played between god and the devil in their spiritual warfare.  Really?

Someone should tell that to Nelson Mandela.  If you believe this stuff, it sounds like human beings are brainless robots, and simply depend on the good luck or bad luck of the religious programming they get.  Even if that's true, it's a rotten system.  I'd much rather be in control and accountable for my choices and decisions. Even more, I expect other people to be and do the same.  That's the world I live in.
