I am sure that we can all agree that many institutions that were founded during colonial era, were largely meant to benefit a few individuals.
I am very supportive with the initiatives of the Sol Plaattjie University and the University of Mpumalanga. However the founding of these institutions is still centred around the colonial era mindset.
What do I mean by colonial era mindest? The universities are just an extension of the already existing universities that are located in the privileged area.
If education truly is the future of South Africa, thus the mindset has to change. We need to look into reducing the cost of education to the benefit of all South Africans.
I propose that high schools be upgraded so that they could also offer university education.
This can be done in a form of distance education, more like Unisa method. The only difference is that it must be the same free education as it is in high schools.
It does not help South Africa at all that graduates wanna join the elite in the privileged areas.
Let us make a few high schools campuses for higher education.
In that way the students can be proud of the places they come from. It will reduce the costs associated with accommodation and living too far away from home etc
