All those who have our country and nation's wellfare at heart are worried about our failed education system .
One can tell from the many articles and readers' letters in the media that people are fully aware of our desperate plight and believe unless something is done to remedy the situation a bleak future awaits us.
In an article in News24 "AllcoveredinNinjas" ( although tongue in cheek ) suggested that learners must spend at least 6 hours in class taught by a teacher who "can pass" the subject.
A good suggestion but like most good schemes in the country it will fail because of lack of will and competence.
Like the police , armed forces , right through the public sector from municipalities to the cabinet , people without the necessary skills are appointed. That is why almost everything is a mess.
The recruiting processes should be handled by skilled experienced people and only the very promising should be selected for training .Failures should not be allowed to proceed and qualify.
Discipline in schools is also a very serious problem . Young hooligans are allowed to play havoc and make effective teaching impossible. Thousands of excellent teachers have left the profession due to that.
These young criminals should be expelled but the Department of Education just give them another change by moving them to another school where they continue with their criminal conduct. We allow a small percentage of criminals to jeopardize the futures of hundreds of thousands
The management bodies of most schools are prepared to expel the unruly learners but the problem lies with the Department officials .
The goverment has already destroyed the futures of millions of young people without skills not able to find jobs because of our failed Education System.
Are we , through inaction , condemn future generations to the same plight as well ?
