Following the race, getting up at 02h30AM and watching all 4 debates, I must say that I'm quite fascinated by American politics especially the presidential races.
What stood out for me was the emphasis put on the undecided voters. Here we have people who actually take their vote serious enough to wait until the last minute to make sure they vote for the right candidate. They realize that their choice will shape the future of their country and that it should not be taken lightly. They want to vote for the man they believe will take their country forward. Not the more popular or likable guy or the one who shares the same race or ethnicity. It is a pure political decision.
Which brings me to South Africa. In a few weeks' time the ANC, our ruling party, will have its elective conference which will in effect be the S.A. presidential election. Whoever becomes ANC president will become S.A. president. That's how important this conference is. 4500 people will essentially decide who our next president will be. Do we want more of the same or do we need fresh faces to take the country forward? Is Zuma deserved of another term or did he blow it and should step aside.
Reports are already doing the rounds of bribery and lobbying of votes to suit personal agendas and factions.
In the midst of all this, my sincere hope is that the branches and delegates base their vote solely with the political future of this beautiful country in mind.
I can only hope...
