The infinite stupidity of South Africa

21 February 2012, 20:59

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you can call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

Depressing song by Bob Dylan with a catchy tune that somehow serves to lift my spirit...

Unlike the pervasive dimwitted mentality of the median South African - serving only to torture me like a dentist performing a root canal and just cannot seem to get the job done.  The grating, the scratching and pain does not stop.

How can so many people be SO delusional?

I mean really:  Houses FOR ALL?  Seriously you have got to think that somewhere somehow somebody has to pay for this?  Produce this?  Build this?  For how many people?  Can we really be so anserine?  Free education?  Free healthcare?  Subsidised babies!?  Come on already!!

Can we really be DEMANDING a LIVING wage of R9000?  With a median South African income one tenth of this?  And surely you have to realise in order to get paid a sum of R9000 you have to produce more than R9000?  And if this was indeed the case surely you would have pricing power in the job market?  In a country with so much unemployment, can it be unreasonable that unskilled manual labour is priced at a rate befitting unskilled manual labour?

Can we really be so bone headed as to think that the mere fact that we have monstrous expenses somehow entitles us to a larger wage?  That the solution is not tightening the belt like the rest of the world?

Service delivery protests?  I'm all for it... except for the fact that VERY few of the "protesters" that are wont to burn down libraries are in fact paying ANY form of tax to fund said services...  And naturally post the bon fire there are even fewer services and amenities available...

We have problems yes, but jeez we are not doing ourselves any favours...

Finally (google translate if you need to):
Wat is die definisie van 'n agtergeblewene?:

Iemand wat vandag op die stasie sit en wag vir die trein wat hy gister afgebrand het.

Tell me I'm wrong please tell me I am wrong.  I desperately want to believe you...
