The poor are not asking for handouts!
Surviving poverty through motivation and courage
My experience in the struggle against poverty is that discipline and patience in itself may not be enough especially when poverty escalate to a non-manageable proportion, neither will persistence or perseverance but tenacity and resilience is the only survival tool left to break out of poverty.
These four elements of survival: discipline, patience, persistence and perseverance are what you do through average routines as you encounter daily challenges, frustrations, anxieties, set-backs, disappointments, stress, distractions, discouragements and
a) Four elements required for an average day to day survival
On this stage of survival, this is where you maintain your
confidence and courage to go through your anticipated set of goals. The four elements then become your motivation factors of survival at that given moment.
Here, you are at your maintenance phase as you only survive through discipline, patience, perseverance and persistence. This is where you are still most fragile and vulnerable and therefore more likely to give up on your routine and set of habits, short term goals and not even make it to your major goals of achievement, because you have simple failed to live through self –discipline.
You will need to live daily through positive-reinforcement
techniques while reassuring yourself to stand steadfast on
your momentarily choices and decisions that are based on the pursuit of personal mission and future goals.
Discipline, patience, persistence and perseverance is the
energy that only walks you through your journey while tenacity and resilience is the force that arrives you to your destination.
Surviving poverty through tenacity and resilience
Tenacity is however the most crucial stage of human existence and survival. It emerges from your inner spirit when life’s obstacles and opposing forces perpetuate beyond your human strength and means of survival.
When you have failed to sustain your hope through the
four elements of survival: discipline, patience, persistence
and perseverance. Ultimately through resilience and
tenacity you are forced to apply intense resistance beyond
your normal capacity and capability.
When overwhelming circumstances override your
persistence over the edge, then tenacity is what you
ultimately become in those turbulent times.
Tenacity is the resilience and soulful refusal required to
withstand all of life’s adversities and circumstances that are
beyond human control.
Tenacity is essential under the following circumstances:
When all of your passion and energy is depleted beyond
refill then hope of survival through resilience and tenacity
When an individual feels that they have been stretched far
beyond elasticity then hope of survival through resilience
and tenacity becomes necessary.
When all attempts have seemingly failed to produce results
then hope of survival through resilience and tenacity
When all ideas have been tried, tested and still failed
miserably then hope of survival through resilience and
tenacity becomes necessary.
When all of your resources are consumed beyond recovery
or replacement then hope of survival through resilience
and tenacity becomes necessary.
When all prospects of a better future seems hopeless
beyond endeavour then hope of survival through resilience
and tenacity becomes necessary.
Eventually tenacity is birthed in the human spirit through
sheer resilience that lingers on the tiny tread of what is
known as hope.
Therefore, hope cannot persists in the absence of tenacity
and resilience. A strong-minded and courageous person
will through tenacity, subject himself to go days without
food and contend with hunger pains but still maintain
hope for a season plenty and abundance.
At this stage in your life, a suicidal thought is more likely to be the solution to end all of your life’s miseries. Depression is at large when one lives a life of survival through tenacity and resilience.
“Obviously, the severity of the depression will determine the severity of the struggle against it, which in turn produces what we are prone to call abnormal behavior. It is not uncommon for suicide to be the final attempt to rid oneself of the awful tyranny of depression.” -24 - Tim LaHaye
The chances of losing a sense of self-worth, is just as prevalent as losing self-esteem and self-confidence. In fact, self-esteem and self-confidence is what often get lost when the four elements of survival (discipline, patience, persistence and perseverance) can no longer sustain the individual during excruciating times.
Out of desperation others have engaged in escapism behaviours such as drugs and alcohol indulgences. While women as young as teenage age, have compromised their reputation and sexual dignity in exchange for quick money through prostitution.
In deep desperation others often engages in money borrowing spree and indebted themselves to a point of debt counselling.
But a sense of respect for one’s being and merely of human
existence through tenacity, is what can possibly prevent a young men from perceiving crime-related activities as a reasonable way out of impoverishment.
Tenacity is the life that you live beyond all your mental and
human capabilities to survive. It is the resilient approach you take even through unforeseen and unpredictable circumstances beyond your future projections.
Consider the sad reality as in the case of child headed homes spreading rapidly in the impoverished residence perpetuated by early mortality rates on family members due to HIV/AIDS and other life-shortening diseases.
It is only through tenacity that the very same child can still have courage to dress up to school and still come back to take the burdening responsibility of looking after siblings and perhaps her AIDS-bedridden mother.
Tenacity is what keeps your spirit immune against depression and suicidal tendencies. It turns for the better more so when the gift of life is chosen and valued over material possessions.
The remarkable mark of successful people is that they have
the tenacity to believe in their own set goals and often find the own unique pathways to achieve those goals.
