For those of us who have experimented with psilocybin mushrooms we know that it can be the most beautiful, the most terrifying and the most amazing experience the human mind could ever have. Many people know very little or nothing at all about psilocybin mushrooms, since the mainstream looks down upon psychedelics. I am writing this article to enlighten the unenlightened, to inform the misinformed and to set straight what we know, and have come to know about this amazing fungus.
Psilocybin mushroom, magic mushroom, psychedelic mushroom or simply shroom, are among the many names given to this fungus that alters the mind. Psilocybin is the active chemical in shrooms. When ingested it breaks down to become psilocin which is responsible for the psychedelic effects. These effects vary depending on the individual and their state of mind before and after ingestion. For example, if you were to ingest psilocybin with a positive, happy mindset, it is most likely you will have a very pleasant experience. But if you were feeling unhappy or fearful you could have something equivalent to a night mare that lasts 4 to 6 hours. So, it all depends entirely on you.
Some of the experiences people have with shrooms include graphic visuals, enhanced visuals of colours, euphoria, seeing auras, visual acuity, seeing objects warp, morph or change colour. Sound is heard with increased clarity and music is highly appreciated. Besides the physical effects, many people experience great amounts of happiness almost like the happiness bursts out and through your entire body. There is also a likelihood of complete bliss, forgetting about worries and the fake reality we have created for ourselves, in other words, you feel like a part of the earth.
Statistics show that psilocybin mushrooms are among the least dangerous drugs on earth, never causing death or illness of any sort. The worst that could happen is the experience of a "bad trip." That is having outbursts of paranoia, fear and anxiety, but like I said earlier that depends on the individual, their mindset, and the setting (the location you take the shrooms). These "bad trips" only last as long as the effect of the psilocybin chemical (usually 4 to 6 hours). Psilocybin is non-addictive and can only be taken once every few months for the effects to be maximised. The users themselves will reject taking it immediately.
Now I get to the point of this article. Studies have shown that people who have taken shrooms at least once in their lives are less likely to be depressed. In fact, one study showed that shrooms will increase your life satisfaction for up to 14 months after taking it. One third of the participants in that study claimed it was the most spiritually satisfying experience they had in their lives while 60% said it was among the top five spiritually satisfying experiences of their life.
Given these results it is a wonder why this drug and other helpful drugs such as cannabis are illegal and shunned by our leaders and elders. The truth is that if such drugs were made legal pharmaceutical companies would lose billions, because sick, depressed, incurable people is what makes these companies most of their money. Always remember that everything in our world revolves around money. And as long as money is involved, corruption is not far behind, even at the expense of human life and happiness.
