I am not writing this as a subject expert, but rather as a keen observer and one that is looking at how we can emancipate ourselves as a nation economically, I chose to base the writing of this article on logic and sound reasoning as compared to passionate valour, and as we all know such writings end with a brawl where people debate semantics and the whole issue, substance and the reasons behind the writing itself are lost.
In my very acute point of view, emancipation is the process of freeing oneself from which ever impediment that is holding one back. Looking back at the history of the world and how emancipation was achieved in particular, economic emancipation, you’d realize a few patterns in behavior and from that be able to form conclusions. I’m only mentioning this country as an example and please note that there are a lot of examples to choose from.
If we look at china there now global commander in chief in terms of economic power; the government decided to build its economy based on science and technology and for that to happen they needed to have engineers, consequently they geared their educational system towards enthusing young minds with mathematics and science, and all other subjects that help young minds become inquisitive and trained in the analytical thought processes. With time 2 decades or so they had their first bunch of engineers ready and rearing to go.
These engineers and scientist invented and created what we know as most of the technology that we have today, now the process of creating necessitates that there be someone that will design and assemble the creations/inventions, hence you have to have technicians and artisans who come from the vocational schooling system that trains individual who are technically minded and are able to delve into the actual challenges of engineering work, and once you have that kind of talent in place, you just need a workforce of disciplined floor workers who will assemble as per artisans specifications and see to it that the final product is appeasing to the eye of the consumer. This in a nut shell is industrialization, and if you combine it with a free market economic system (capitalism) you have a world economic power in the making with the necessary financial arm to cure most of its social ills.
This is one of the now global giants that sort to emancipate themselves from poverty and economic enslavement of borrowing from the World Bank and forever being indebted and dependent on the global economy. My question shouldn’t we be doing the same as in following this model as a country instead of taking it to the streets and trashing an already ailing economy and causing rampant chaos which makes investors shy away from our country.
