The 'white' dream
Every time I comment on any political article on this site, or read through the comments, I see someone who can't spell very well saying something about the 'white' dream.
I'm willing to write off the bad spelling, because hey, I know plenty Afrikaners who can't figure out the 'th' 'f' issue (no offense to those who can) and I don't think dyslexia is necessarily a handicap.
However, I have to wonder what the white dream is?
I am white. Here are MY dreams.
I dream of good food, good wine and good friends.
I dream of a safe, peaceful home, and being able to walk down the street without being scared.
I dream of my children being able to get the education they deserve, and a level playing field to compete on. Not in history: TODAY.
I dream of a country where EVERYTHING is not based on race. Where we look at each other as partners, rather than adversaries.
I dream of a WORLD where everyone is free to be and do whatever their dreams and their efforts can achieve.
I dream of doing a job that I love, for a fair wage, and of one day being able to look back on the fruits of my labours with pride.
Do my dreams have colour?
Are they different to yours?
Maybe my dreams are small and peaceful, but aren't they better than the alternative?
There is NO 'white' dream. No 'black' dream.
We both want the SAME things. We just need to WAKE UP, start talking about our dreams, and start thinking about how we can make those dreams a reality, rather than something we visit only in our subconscious.
