The wrong people have been entrusted to lead

24 March 2014, 11:44

The world has entrusted the wrong people to lead it and this is reflected in the bitterly cruel souls of those who remind us that we live amongst evil beasts capable of inflicting the most heinous crimes on their fellow man. Trying to understand more about these twisted souls has made us soft; when public hangings were the norm murderers and rapists thought twice before proceeding with their brutality hands down – currently we have an athlete who, judging by all evidence laid out so far, without doubt ranks with the worst cold-blooded murderers in history, close on his heels is the Dewani fellow who lured his lovely bride to her valley of death in the most cruel way (bringing her on a Cape Town “fairytale honeymoon”  and then staging a kidnapping to have her murdered, the murderers sang, he hides behind the law), we have an airplane that has vanished into thin air and we have Zuma and the ANC (in whom we placed all our faith) leading a pact amongst the wealthy in a race for every penny our country has, by hook, but mostly by crook.

Enter the dragon, yes, the dragon Zille, arguably the person who divides South Africans the most, who, together with her band of men and women longing for apartheids guaranteed and protected privileges, longing for less union activity for their super rich minority, longing for more “flexible’ labour laws to benefit them even more, have wasted not a single opportunity in trying to capitalize on the many downfalls of the ANC, some of their comments bordering on racist - in reality their ways go a long way towards achieving the opposite effect of their intentions.. of wrestling power back from the majority government. My pet hate about the DA is their hypocrisy, it’s okay for them to spend billions of rand’, wasting it on stupid court cases but lo and behold should they see wastage elsewhere, typical DA mind-set, a sense of entitlement where They have different rules to live by from others, talk about living in the past.,  Then there’s the Commander in Chief who would basically love to convince us that he is everything to everyone, though there is substance, a lot of it, to his call for our country’s land and wealth to be shared and enjoyed by Everyone instead of a few apartheid beneficiaries, senior ANC officials and a few rented Black faces.

We were chattering about all this the weekend gone by, all but the small parties seemed to have been represented - as we chatted merrily and passionately away, the discussion going this way and that way there seemed to be no end or solution in sight until the person who sat most silent amongst us decided to speak and put it all into context;

Silence descended over the place and this is what they said, or something meaning:

‘I couldn’t care less if Jacob Zuma steals every penny from us direct or via the State’s coffers but I’m not risking a single vote, I’m not giving even the slightest chance to parties like the DA and Freedom Front Plus to sneak in another round of White misrule, they are arrogant with a slim support margin, imagine how they’d be with a bigger one?’

Bam! We finally understood why people choose to remain with the ANC, they view the alternatives as being worse even though it is nigh impossible for the DA to make any significant inroads into SA politics due to the numbers: with 17 000 000 people registered to vote, even if every single person who is not Black votes for parties other than the ANC a minority will remain a minority until a party again comes along and becomes relevant to the hopes and aspirations of the majority of struggling South Africans.

Now and then someone comes along with all the bravery, integrity, intelligence self-confidence and self-assurance like a breath of fresh air they come to remind us that not All is lost, that there is STILL reason to believe; Thuli Madonsela, SHE is the kind of leader we South Africans, AND the world needs….There was even a slight nod of agreement from our steadfast ANC friend, he was obviously not from the ANC Youth League, thank God.
