I hate character assassinations, but if there's on person on here I - and a considerable number of others - cannot stand, it's Thoughtsandstuff. Disagree with her at your own peril, for she shall heap scorn and poor insults all over you. However, for how much longer are people on here going to keep praising her for puerile stories such as http://www.news24.com/MyNews24/We-dont-need-a-ruling-party-20121027?
This story, and most of everything else she writes (I generously say 'most' only because I can't be bothered to read all of it) fall squarely into the 'stuff' category of 'Thoughtsandstuff'. We thought, when she emigrated, that she'd be gone, but no. We thought, later, when she threatened to leave all us imbeciles in favour of some sites where they were all supposedly more intelligent and farted rainbows, that'd we'd gotten rid of her. But no, she's back, sporting a new nick, and the exact same old whinge.
For those of us who still praise her, let me break her latest story down:"Every time I read the term 'ruling party' I cringe. Visions of Louis XV and his 'heady' reign, and his famous wife and her 'let them eat cake' pop into my mind. [Irrelevant, and we don't want to know what happens in your mind]When I think of 'ruling' I think of feudal lords, drinking in their filthy grand halls while peasants shiver in huts. I think of dictators guzzling champagne while people die. [Good for you. What do you think of when you hear 'minority party'?]Perhaps, when the ANC refer to themselves as the 'ruling' party, it's not a misnomer after all? [Stop applying your figments of imagination to a country you left behind]They're not doing much different, are they? Their excesses are clear to see, while people starve. Not really the people's party, are they? [Stop asking rhetorical questions, start providing proof. Oh wait, you're out of the country, and CNN doesn't carry good news stories about SA.]The thing is though, we don't need a 'ruling' party at all.We need a governing party. We need a managing party. We need someone who knows how to run a business, and who applies that knowledge to South Africa, and we need them soon. [What's all this 'we' stuff? You're not part of 'us'. Also, stop stating the obvious in an attempt for us to agree with you.]A country IS a business. On a larger scale, with more shareholders in the form of citizens, and with a much more complex structure, but it is a business. [No, a country is not just about profit. Businesses are only about profit.]Until a country reaches the point of economic prosperity, it cannot hope to climb further up ol' Mazlow's heirarchy as a collective, and so far, we've failed dismally to do that. [Economic prosperity is a tricky thing to define, and ultimately unobtainable. Look to the problems ailing any 'first world' country]The longer we are 'ruled' by the feudal lords, the harder that job becomes for whoever will take up the task next. [Erm, Barack Obama managed the transition to the first black president quite well. Nelson Mandela overthrew Apartheid relatively easily. Change builds, and then arrives quickly.]However, there is no doubt that whoever does follow the ANC will have their work cut out for them, and if they don't focus on the basics: education (even if it means mandatory adult basic education), small business and economic growth and nation building, they will fail too. [Yes, just like the ANC had its work cut out for it, repairing all the Apartheid damage. Progress is an ongoing job.]Stop looking for a ruler. Look for a manager. You are a shareholder. Every shareholder has the right to get together with other shareholders, and fire bad managers.Fire them already. Before it's too late. [Do you always look for the easiest scapegoat? Don't like the company's performance - fire the managers. Don't like the country - leave the country. I see a pattern emerging.]Someone else here said that pigs would fly before the DA took over. That may be true. But we'll all go skiing in hell before the ANC makes a success of SA. [Again, you'll do nothing except cry into your milk if the ANC makes a success of SA, and maybe return here with your tail between your legs, probably conning yourself into thinking that your whingeing articles were part of the 'success' of the country. They aren't: the successes are due to us, South African citizens committed to the country, fixing problems and viewing every problem in context.]"
Thoughtsandstuff, you don't add value to my life, or anybody else's here, through your articles. You don't contribute new thoughts, analysis or information: you only rake up old hurts, make weak connections and state absolutely everything through a biased lens. Sadly, a sub-set of people here agree with you, and so you get the couple of 'likes' which you so desperately crave.
The question is, for how much longer? And maybe more importantly, why? We. Just. Don't. Care. I, however, care about those who do, and still live here.
