The recent debate between President Zuma and the FF+ over the land issue has again caused massive debate on this forum. Everybody and his brother is claiming that, for various reasons the land belongs to them. I believe this to be a completely useless debate with no outcome that will please everybody.
Let’s look at it from a global perspective. You have two groups of people, group A and group B. For the sake of this argument let’s say both of these people have purple skin. Group A through various factors like advanced agriculture and science has shown a significant increase in numbers. Soon group A finds itself with not enough land to go around. Group A then sets out to discover new sources of land. They find a land inhabited by group B which is scattered and does not have the population of group A, due to the fact that they rely on hunting and gathering to survive.
What happens? Some of the people from group A will try to buy land from group B. Some will simply displace group B. Some people in group B will sell their land and some in group B will be displaced. This happens because group A simply has more power than group B, and they view themselves as more deserving of this land, because they are more advanced. Group B also views itself as more deserving, but they simply do not have the power to resist. This is simply the way the world works. This happens whenever two groups of people meet. Naturally it is very unfortunate for the people in group B that they were displaced, but nobody ever said that life was fair.
Now let’s jump forward a few hundred years. People is this “land” still see themselves as either belonging to group A or to group B, and they have started to dispute the rights of the other group. The question we have to ask ourselves is this, what is more productive in the long run? Do we go around in circles endlessly, or do we accept that a new group has been formed? Group C consists of people from both groups A and B. Group C would like to see the “land” move forward and be run efficiently and well, so that the entire group C will benefit from it. Group C realises that living in the past does nobody any good, and the past cannot be changed. What happened, happened and unless someone invents a time machine, what is done is done.
Now we have group B in power. They are very rich and very powerful. They became rich by doing exactly what group A did in the past. They are feeding this debate and others, precisely because they would like to distract group B from the fact that they are making millions under the table every year, while the vast majority of group B is left out in the cold. Every time someone starts to notice that the gulf between the life styles of the leadership and the rest is actually the Grand Canyon, they simply point at group A and say it is their fault. “Remember what group A took from you, we are giving to the people…” What the people in group B need to realise is that nothing actually reaches group B. It just sticks in the pockets of the leaders. Group A is constantly trying to defend their past, while failing to notice that there is no point. Again, what’s done is done.
In the future the rest of the country is trying to build, neither group A nor group B has any place. The sooner we can swell the ranks of group C, the better. Despite what group A and group B would like us to believe, Group C is growing every day. More and more people are beginning to realize that, if you keep looking behind you, you will surely end up walking into a deep dark hole. The only way to avoid this is to look forward. I would like the people in group C to stand strong. Groups A and B will become more and more desperate as they see their numbers declining. As they become desperate they will try to employ desperate measures. The people stuck in group A and group B are also allot more vocal on these forums. This could cause us to over-estimate their numbers, but there are more of us in group C than you realise. Group C will inherit the country eventually, and then the sky is the limit.
