To all NEWS24 readers

09 January 2014, 07:47
The reason for writing this is that I'd like to read some of you good peoples' responses and ideas regarding a few things I'm seeing here on NEWS24, and what better place to actually accomplish that than in an article itself? I think it's totally weird that the main comments (in response to any given article) are assigned timestamps, yet if you refresh the page or come back ten minutes later, there is absolutely no chronological layout to find your posts and see whether (or not) somebody has replied to it. From day one, I have yet to find one of my responses or comments because I can't be bothered to scroll endlessly looking for it again. Does anybody else have this problem; finding their posts/comments? Is it that difficult to arrange a system where the comments are chronologically correct, NEWS24, or at least have some type of pattern and uniformity within the comments section? The next thing I'd like to discuss are trolls. The 'culture' of trolling has fast become an 'art-form' and one would be wise to educate oneself as to the trollers methods and reasoning behind it. In short, trollers are people who instigate trouble for the sole reason of disrupting the thread or topic. A clever troll will bait you into giving a verbose emotional response to something absolutely so absurd that they posted and then reply in one or two words. They will often use badly spelled words or post something that's completely irrelevant in order to elicit a response. Please note : this is NOT the same as text-speakers who simply have no excuse (other than laziness or ignorance) for how they type. But that's a whole other story.. At times it is difficult to navigate the web with so many trollers around. The best way to spot them is to be aware or suspicious of people who post hurtful/insulting things and then ignore them. Who knows why they act like this or why they do what they do. The worst type are the ones that seem happy when somebody dies. Only a sad and lonely, desperate person would act like this; people who are social outcasts, people who are so miserable that ANY attention at all is better than none. So, my advice is this - either get fluent in the even more subtle art of 'counter-trolling' (if you can be bothered) or just completely ignore them. Easy! Then there is the whole 'thums-up/ thumbs-down' voting method - henceforth referred to TU or TD. I find it hugely amusing to see some of the regulars on NEWS24 who post or respond with the most stupid comments that get many more TD than TU. Now, maybe it's because of the timestamp issue I referred to earlier that these people are simply unable or unwilling to refer back to their comments'. To those regulars who post and get lots of TD's - this means that the general consensus is that the majority of readers DO NOT agree with your thoughts. When you reply and repost the same drivel as before, the chances are that you will still receive a lot of TD's. I urge you to rethink your stance on things because you only end up embarrasing yourselves. That's all for now, people. Please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section and please keep an eye out for how many TU's and TD's you are getting, as this is a very useful tool for keeping track of how intelligent the general public thinks you are.
