To whom does God speak

31 January 2013, 09:00
If you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Saviour you are adopted into a new family. You are now a son(son refers to a child in the Jewish culture that will receive an inheritance) of God, with Jesus being the first.

Coming to this point of repentance you have already dealt with the trinity as the goodness of God draws us toward Jesus, the Holy Spirit convicts us of our unrighteousness(our unholiness bubbles to the surface) and we repentant and ask Jesus to save us because we are unable to live according to the goodness an omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient God has set before us.

Every believer will remember that day because there was an encounter with a living God. Much communication happened right there! If you have your doubts, that is fine because God has never been intimidated by your lack of faith, knowledge and hardness of your heart. Lets not take my word for what communication is, lets go to a source of authority. The oxford dictionary gives a clear definition of communication.

the imparting or exchanging of information by speaking, writing, or using some other medium
So what changed from the last day we denied Christ to the first day we accepted Christ and the free gift of salvation. What information did we receive or was made known to us, because without anything added and us responding to this new information the status qua wont change.

We all resist change, yet without(mostly) God himself audibly speaking to you you find yourself responding to him. Not only do you respond but the heavens respond and it sounds like the winning runs of the 438 game being scored.

I believe, to understand communication you need to understand authority, as well as designated authority. I dont like the oxford description here, but I need to stick to my sources.

The power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience.

When it comes to church, three sources of authority are recognized. Scripture, Reason, and Tradition of which scripture has the highest authority. Because reason and tradition are subject to much debate over what is right and wrong I'm only going to discuss scripture. But suffice to say, that if my church's tradition is to pray through the virgin Mary and I find that is in contrast to scripture I'm to obey scripture. If the scientists tell me that they have come by knowledge through reason that I come from a monkey and I find that is in contrast to scripture I'm to obey scripture.

Why does scripture has the Highest authority, shouldn't God have the highest authority. How do we know what we know about God, through His logos word. The full revelation of God. God himself said that even if natural and supernatural pass away, his words shall not. It is unchangeable, immutable and applicable in all circumstances. God wrote the law(his word) on tablets, Moses wrote down the law and governmental rules so that Israel could know who this God is that saved them.

Now who gave Moses authority, he didn't have the word of God, church or TBN(lol). God not only gives his full corporate revelation but also his rhema word, the personal word for the here and now. In the old testament he did that through prophets, people that are assigned, given authority to speak on Gods behalf things that will come to pass. God himself spoke to Moses through a sign, a burning bush, but after that place where God gave him authority to speak everything he said came true, even when he misrepresented God it still came true even though he was punished for that.

God wanted to speak to his people personally, but his people became fearful and decided it would be best if they had a representative.

Like Moses, Jesus was also a messianic prophet but Jesus represented God completely on earth in what he did as well as refused to do. Luk 4:18,19 Jesus is launched into his ministry by the reading of scripture. God gives him authority through Is 61:1. During his ministry Jesus gives authority to his disciples to heal the sick and cast out demons which they do.
When Jesus died and was brought back to life God gave Jesus all authority in heaven in earth. He had the power and the right to give us this order that represent God's heart. Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

So whether you came to the knowledge, information, revelation of Christ through a follower of Christ, His scripture or the ramblings of a enemy of Christ(God used the Babilonian King to bring deliverance to his captive people), the knowledge was not yours until it came to you by the authority God chose.

God still speaks to his children through His word and the five-fold ministry in church, but whatever you receive, confer in the spirit and concur in the word.
