I was so amazed to read the news today re Public Transport that I simply wanted to comment on it. For so long we are told that E-Tolls are required to pay for the roads but also to motivate people to use Public Transport.
With this in mind I draw attention to the Article in the Roodepoort Record this morning which states that the City of Johannesburg are on a drive to encourage residents to make use of other means of transport e.g walking or cycling and public transport. The underlying issue being that the "Buses are running Dry". Metrobus apparently transports around 90 000 people a day.
Most management positions are vacant owing to sick leave, suspensions and resignations and is seemingly skidding out of control. Drivers are absent and buses are not maintained. When asked to comment by the Newspaper but was told by the Media Liaison person that she cannot comment as she has to protect herself.
It is with a feeling of despondency that I read this article and can only wonder where this will all end.
