There has been a lot happening in Gaza and Israel since the last post, and by the sound of things it seems like Israel is finally feeling the pressure from all the corners of the World, and not a moment to soon with the death toll sitting at 670, with most of them being Palestinian civilians, 90 of them woman and and estimated 160 of them being children.
There has been protests all over the World against the excessive violence which was carried out under the guise of self defense from Israel’s side, with a defiant Benjamin Netanyahu sounding very much like then Vice President George HW Bush who said the following regarding Iranian flight 655 which was shot down by the North Americans over Iranian airspace.I will never apologize for the United Staes of America, ever. I don’t care what the facts are” – Newsweek, August 15, 1988
This afternoon, the UN Human Rights council said that Israel might be committing war crimes, and they have started and investigation, and calling on the International Community for independent investigations into the alleged war crimes, and with a few of the big airline companies suspending flights to and from Ben Gurion for the time being I can say that I feel as if the tide is turning against the state of Israel, and this is now forcing them to the negotiation table, with a cease fire for the time being.
With this being said, it is my personal opinion, that should the UN Human Rights Council find proof of war crimes that they should add to their legitimacy by encouraging sanctions against Israel, add their weight behind the BDS movement, and that they should actively seek to prosecute Benjamin Netanyahu in The Hague at the ICC, who has a tarnished imagine because of their seemingly unwillingness to prosecute any other leaders except leaders of African countries, and leaders from predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East.
The sad part is, Ben is only the face of something which lies deeper. Something called hate and prejudice, and the ICC can’t and won’t be able to prosecute all the Israelis who has actively supported this slaughtering of the innocents.
It is us to us, as citizens of the World to confront the beast whenever we see it, and to take it head on and not stay quiet about it.Although it is too soon to celebrate a victory for the Palestinian people, I feel I can honestly say, this is a step in the right direction and that I am greatly impressed with the vigorous support which the Palestinian people received from people around the World, and this gives me hope for the human species as a whole.
Namaste people of the World
