Tutu and his beloved Israel Apartheid Libel

11 March 2014, 21:00

I refer to the article published on News24 on the 10th of March 2014 "Israel reminds me of Apartheid". Tutu has once again thrown his pseudo-righteous façade behind a libel aimed at targeting the only Jewish State and bringing about its demise. He once again shows a lack of any knowledge about the roots of the conflict, its complexity and instead spews vicious lies about Israel.

The article quotes Tutu as saying, "The racially segregated roads and housing in Israel", I challenge Tutu to get off his thrown, make a trip to Israel proper and find me those roads! They simply don’t exist.

Arab towns do exist not in the same sense as black townships did in Apartheid rather in the same sense as Harlem is predominately black, areas of London are predominately Muslim, Jewish etc. There is NO law which forces someone to live in a certain place. An Arab in Israel can live in any city he wishes, and there are many examples of mixed cities such as Haifa and Acco to name but a few.

The ONLY separate roads are for Israeli citizens and Palestinians in the areas in dispute (not Israel proper) and this is purely for security reasons. Terror attacks targeting Israeli cars and citizens (both Arab and Jews alike) have been numerous and these roads prevent violence and terrorism. Are they ideal? NO, Would it be better if they weren’t there? SURE.

The source of this issue is not that the roads are there but why they are needed and how we can fix it! Tutu is oblivious to this! Terror and incitement are the sources, get rid of those and there will be a chance at peace.

Tutu is his simplification of this issue would like you to believe that Israel controls all of the Land in dispute. Sorry to burst his bubble, but Israel DON’T. The Oslo Accords divided the land into three areas A,B,C. Area C is under full Israeli civilian and military control, B is under Palestinian civilian control and Israeli military control and A is under full Palestinian security and civilian control.

Almost all of what happens in areas A and B is under the control of the Palestinian leadership.

For a Palestinian to get into Israel they have to pass a checkpoint, much like I have to pass a border post when going into Zimbabwe (the lines getting into Zimbabwe don’t look that different to what the Palestinians encounter). This is a reality of the world we live in, not some form of racial segregation. A Mexican can't get freely into America and a South African can't get freely into England.

Security checks are heightened at these border posts. Why, you may ask…the answer is this: Over the past years on numerous occasions, Palestinians have tried many methods of smuggling terrorists into Israel. These include using pregnant women, children as suicide bombers (the most famous being a 14 year old child), the sick on their way to hospital.

Sadly, Israel needs to double and triple check everything to make sure her civilians are safe. Wouldn’t you expect that from your country?

Tutu promotes a one sided version to a conflict that has spanned over a century. His arguments are disingenuous and use false information. Tutu hides behind a saintly façade, and his standing as an anti (REAL) Apartheid activist to promote his vicious and hateful anti-Israel rhetoric. He has no place to comment on this conflict.

A true and lasting peace in the Israel/Palestinian conflict can come only through bringing the sides together. Boycotts, Sanctions and Divestment may have worked for South Africa but it has no place in the historically and factually very different, Israel/Palestinian conflict. It is not good for the Israelis, not good for the Palestinians and most definitely not good for peace!
