I'm sure we all know that no culture influences young South Africans quite like that of the United States of America, but do we know how large the extent of the influence is?
It's in our television, so it's in our homes, it's in your desires, so it's in your children & since it was in our parents we of the 90's were "born" with it, or do our American TV shows just show us the comparisons now ? The USA influences South Africa so much it's in our business policies, look at BEE, they called it Affirmative Action; it's in the Law, they had O.J. Simpson, we have Oscar Pistorius; it's in our Constitution, well this we might be copying from The United Kingdom's Official Secrets Act in the form of the Protection of State Information Bill, actually renamed from Protection of Information Bill to seem more appealing to the public as it is labelling themselves as "State" so they are protected from all of the corruption our Freedom of The Press keeps exposing. But at least we can be proud to be one of the few countries that has business openly running a country, I mean, look at the corruption.
We're so trying so hard to be American, tune into DStv's 114 and I bet you there's a reality show on VUZU with rich kids working on their music/acting/breakdancing career because they have the time to film a "reality show" & 124 gives us E! Entertainment which is showing me some wealthy Kardashian family basically doing nothing, but living & breathing. Miguel was doing a concert here the other week & "confessing" on V! Entertainment that his music isn't just about sex. I actually liked that he did that though, my parents think I like Miguel only because his music is mostly about sex.
We're trying so hard to be America our women wear leggings as pants, I wonder if Americans did that first, but this is not too bad, I love the way they hug a woman with an apple bottom & there's even a popular brand of leggings around Gauteng know as GalXBoy that I have seen South Africa's very own Twerk team wearing on YouTube. We're trying so hard to be America I bet you a boy in Somalia is being sold the South African Dream, & look at how many foreigners are in our country... I'm not complaining, but we're trying sooo damn hard to be America some of you look down on the foreigners who work so hard for our lazy asses. We're trying so hard I used Americanisms in this article.
We're the USA of Africa, I suppose our Canadians are the Tsonga,Pedi,Xhosa & Venda speaking people for they are the last respectful people I'm seeing our society which likes to mock in them culturally elitist individuals like the Americans mock the Canadians on geographic elitist manner.
Or are we just being divided by our government ? Obama breached his previous government's racial barrier & got white people to vote for him, will this country ever instate a different colour ? We're too so focused on our differences, we may only grow by looking at what makes us one. We're behaving like leopards & cheetahs, refusing to change our sports like wild animals forgetting that we're all felines.
We could grow together, but we're all obsessed with "our" kind when we're all human kind.
