Unable to get police clearance and Home Affairs horrors

08 July 2014, 15:20
Good luck with those parents having to apply for unabridged birth certificates for their kids. I know that the date has been extended to September but that just might not be enough. I have had countless issues with home affairs in Bellville. Two years ago I applied for my 2 kids passports, by the way not the first time because they were born overseas. I got my daughters passport with my son's photo inside and then I was told that it was correct. I had to argue you with them and hold up both passports simultaneously to show them that they used the same photo. I am married to a New Zealand citizen that was born in India. Before we got married in South Africa 12 years ago, we were told to go for an interview before getting married and he had to have police clearance from all the countries he had lived in since age 18. He had to get clearance from India, America and South Korea. We had police clearance from The Indian embassy which was accepted at the time. Now, that he wants to apply for permanent residence, he needs clearance again. We have tried so many different avenues, the Korean and American ones are not a problem but home affairs refuses to accept clearance from the Indian Embassy. We have given up already, he has been living here since December 2005. Can you help? He is currently on a visitors visa.   Last year we decided to visit his family in Australia in December so we applied for unabridged birth certificates as required by the visa application. I applied June 20th and only received it in March this year. Fortunately their visas were processed if you had proof that we applied for the certificates. I was sent an email in August last year telling me that I had to visit the office. When I arrived there I was told that I had to complete more forms for the visa application after 2 months had already passed. I started filling in the forms but stopped as I realised that I had filled them in already. I asked to speak to someone and after waiting forever and speaking to different people, I was told that they had no record of my kids. Yip, so I wonder where I got their abridged birth certificates and their passports from. Conveniently they found the forms I had filled in before and was told to wait another 8 weeks. October 11th, I was contacted, informing me that their birth certificates were ready. Very excited, I went back just to discover that there were errors on the certificates. My daughters one showed my place  and country of birth to be South Africa whereas my son's showed Cape town as the place and South Africa as the country of birth. I was not too concerned about this. For both my kids my husbands place of birth showed Keelapatty (which is correct) but the country of birth is New Zealand. Once again I had to explain to them that it was incorrect. After alot of back and forth, I was told that besides the R75 I paid for each child already, I had to fill in more forms (BI 526 and BI 24) and pay R70 each as well as give copies of my husbands passport and adoption deed (he was adopted by Australian and New Zealand parents). I did all this as I was told the vault copy might be incorrect. I was told by Mr Matiso that if the vault copy was indeed correct and it was home affairs mistake, I would get my money back. I finally got my kids birth certificates back in March this year, long after returning from my holiday. They fixed the country of birth of my husbands but not my place of birth. I requested to see the vault copy but then I was told that the forms I filled in was just to correct the mistake. I was livid by then, so for all I know, the vault copy is still incorrect and I had to pay for what? I was so angry and wanted to make a formal complaint. I went to the website on ready some other people's complaints or should I say horror stories and realised that it would just be a futile exercise. They are just very incompetent and I am disgusted in the service or lack thereof that I received.

Gangs in Durban

Like most people who watched Carte Blanche this Sunday, I was flabbergasted by the comments of Brigadier Sayers, who stated that there are no gang activities in Wentworth. That the four drive-by shootings that occurred on Christmas day were just part of general festive activities. Read more...
