I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason; it is however through life experiences and growing in my connection with God that I started to embrace that not only do things happen for a reason, they actually happen for a good reason. Being retrenched from a love relationship has brought me an equal amount of pain and blessings.
I was disappointed that my being laid off was communicated via sms but in the midst of my disappointments and not feeling appreciated, I learned to appreciate the blessing of space. I appreciated that this period was offering me an opportunity to grow emotionally. My need to grow emotionally was clearly reflected in the manner I communicated.
It also dawned upon me that just because I would buy pearl earrings for no particular reason or rock up with lilies just to show my affection, I fell under the illusion that I was the most romantic creature on earth and that I celebrated valentine everyday.
I have recently realised that love is more than rocking up with flowers for no reason, love is patient, love is kind, love is not proud, love is not easily angered. You cannot say you celebrate valentine's day everyday yet you easily loose your temper with your loved ones, there is no point in buying flowers or cooking your loved one’s favourite meals everyday, if in moments of disagreements you feel entitled not to say good morning, good bye or I love you because you have allowed yourself to be consumed by anger.
If you have had times when you have ignored your partner’s call because you were so angry at them, you surely cannot say valentine is everyday. I really think valentine, if fully embraced without judgement allows us to fully experience the purity and essence of love.
It's on valentine that most of us make conscious efforts to try and reflect love as defined in 1st Corinthians 13, valentine affords singles to unmask I am single and happy façade and embrace the inherent nature of every soul to seek and share love.
If you can look me in the eye with a firm handshake and say, I have observed, expressed and shared the principles of 1st Corinthians 13 in every moment of my journey, I have shared love with everyone and everything around me, I have always chosen to reflect my divine qualities despite what I am experiencing, I will humbly say to you, my friend, you have celebrated valentine everyday.
