The article: “SA woman rescued from abuse in Pakistan”, has reference. (News24, February 14).
This is a wakeup call to all of us, that violence against women is real and cannot be ignored. Domestic violence is a behaviour that knows no culture, religion, race, tradition, social status or Country.
Every day in the world, a woman is abused or assaulted. Not all domestic violence results in violent killings, but every case has that potential. There is absolutely no justification for domestic violence and spousal abuse of any kind whether mental, physical, verbal or sexual and it is totally and wholly unacceptable. It must be addressed collectively by every member of our community.
Abuse, violence, anger and vulgar language are not acceptable methods to solve human problems and it can never be condoned. It only increases the problem.
While foreigners are most welcomed to our beautiful country and enjoy the business opportunities and the fauna and flora, the behaviour of some of the foreign immigrants is becoming increasingly a matter of great concern and worry. If one decides to immigrate to a country or marry a woman from the host country, then one should respect the citizen’s, the environment, institutions, culture, traditions and the laws of the country. Together with being law abiding citizen’s contributions must also be made to improve the economy and empower the indigenous people especially in the rural areas.
Over the last few years there is a huge arrival of foreigners into our country. Local women must be very cautious who they marry as some of these foreign men are opportunists and specifically come to South Africa just to obtain papers like passports and ID documents. Once their papers are sorted out they disappear leaving behind the women. All the promises made are forgotten and many a time the innocent woman is left to deal with huge debts, children and other difficulties and challenges.
In this regard our ministry of home affairs and border controls must be very vigilant and alert. More strict measures must be put in place to obtain South African nationality.
The future of humanity depends on the inherent values of trust, respect, honesty, love and acceptance.
An important part of social responsibility is that every individual in a community or society should have a great responsibility to his or her country and to fellow human beings.
