Was Jesus born at all?

12 June 2014, 13:15
Luke 2:1-20 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
Luke's tale is based on half truths and obfuscation. Jesus had to be born in Bethlehem, Quirinius was governor. Recently a Census was held in South Africa and you were registered where you lived, at the time I lived in Tshwane so for the purpose of the census I was counted as a resident of Tshwane. I did not have to go back to the place of my Birth to register.
Let's get some clarity here, Both Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem, for the purposes of the census, so anyone not living in their place had to travel to be counted. Was Mary also born in Bethlehem? or was it only the men that had to travel with their chattel to the place of birth?
In 1886, the theologian Emil Schürer, in his monumental study, Geschichte des judischen Volks im Zeitalter Jesu Christi (A History of the Jewish People in the Time of Jesus Christ), closely criticised the traditional view. He raised five points which showed, he believed, that the Luke account could not be historically accurate:
Nothing is known in history of a general census by Augustus; In a Roman census Joseph would not have had to travel to Bethlehem, and Mary would not have had to travel at all;No Roman census would have been made in Judea during the reign of Herod;Josephus records no such census and it would have been a notable innovation;Quirinius was not governor of Syria until long after the reign of Herod
Matthew 1:2 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men[c] from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose[d] and have come to worship him.” 3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; 4 and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:
Herod and Quirinius were not contemporaries at all. Why do two of the Gospels differ on the timing of Jesus Birth? Surely an all knowing, omnipotent God would have pointed out this elementary error?
This begs the question, Was Jesus born at all?
