Water hyacith to be converted to ferlizer

12 March 2014, 08:35

A private investor in Naivasha has volunteered to  convert  the water hyacinth into fertilizer

Nakuru county governor Kinuthia  Mbugua said that the   investor has  volunteered both   machinery and  man power to help curb the weed menace

Speaking to the press  in Naivasha Kinuthia argued that  this  is an  initial step into curbing the spread of the weed

Kinuthia added that they had already given the investor the go ahead after a stakeholders meeting for the whole day

"The investor will present his proposal to the cabinet in the county assembly soon," he added

Governor Kinuthia said the investor was ready to incur all the costs involved in the making of the fertilizer.

He added that they were just waiting for the approval of the two County organs, so that the investor will be allowed to carry out feasibility studies in the area.

"We will   give all the necessary support if the as a county of the request is successful" he added "I am impressed that even people have started making paper from the weed.” he added

If the weed can be commercially viable, then it will be good for the county,” said the governor
