Westridge High School is a shining example of everything that is wrong with our educational system. We live across the road from the high school to our detriment and we have now even considered moving due to the daily chaos and hooliganism at the school.
Children are still strolling to school almost an hour after school started and walking in the middle of the road, not giving a hoot about traffic.
Parents and taxis driving daily against a one way to drop off children and parking in front of complex gates. Since parents are providing such an abysmal example to their children it is no wonder that there is no regard for the law.
Smoking of cigarettes and dope in the street in front of the school in uniform occur on a daily basis.
Gambling in the street in front of the school is also a daily occurrence.
But the worst behaviour relates to swearing and intimidation of by passers and people living in our complex. Pupils throw stones and swear even at elderly ladies in the complex. Pupils constantly ring the intercoms at the complex for fun and when it is addressed they again swear at you.
And of course the best part is when you complain to the school the principle tells you that he can do nothing about it as it happens outside school property.
My question is where are the parents of these children who sometimes sit outside the school still at 6 at night when I come home? How can you leave your kids on the road dwelling around after school and not think that they will get up to mischief??
How can the school just shrug their shoulders and say it is not their problem??
We as parents are failing our kids by not setting examples, by not taking care of our children and not taking disciplinary measures when required. What message are we giving our children by just letting them do as they please with clearly no regard or care for others?
Or maybe they are already following the example that has been set for them...............
