Much has been written on News24 about various gods or different versions of the same god and I have a fairly clear picture that they created everything and of how they expect human beings to behave. As one who does not currently worship any of these gods I was wondering what these gods actually do that could add value to and improve my experience of life.
Now I have been conned a few times in my life by people making spurious claims and have at times foolishly fallen for them and had fraudsters walk away with some of my hard earned cash. So when it comes to the need to believe in and worship a god I am concerned to ensure that the god is the real deal and that I won't simply be conned again with false promises.
Billions of my fellow humans worship one or more gods and tremendous claims are made for the benefits of doing so. I must assuredly be missing out on something so I am appealing to those who currently worship a god to let me know what their god actually does that can add measurable benefit to my life and the lives of my family. I can then choose the god that fits my lifestyle and which offers the best benefit program.
I am going to accept the fact that whatever god you suggest actually exists and also all the attributes, opinions and rules made for that god. What I have yet to understand, and what you can help me with from personal experience, is what your god does in the following areas of interest to me.
Does your god speak to all of his followers?
Some followers of the Christian God, for instance, make claims like, "As I walked through the church door the following Sunday, God spoke to me” and “I have met god and he spoke to me”. But only a few followers of this God actually make this claim so it seems he only speaks to a very select few. Certainly this same God never spoke to my mother, who worshipped him all her life, nor did he speak to me or any of my brothers and sisters when we were all still believers. I want a god who does not discriminate like that and communicates directly with every one of his followers.
Does your god perform miracles?
Many believers make the claim that their god performs miracles every day. I see news reports like, “Miracle baby survives” or “Man lives because of miracle cure” but on examination they turn out to have little substance and to be the result of more mundane explainable interventions. Also, many of these claimed miracles benefit non-believers so I wonder why the believers claim their god did it. I need a god that regularly performs patently supernatural wonders which cannot be explained by any scientific method.
Does your god answer prayers?
Does your god answer all prayers or only some of them? It seems pointless to me to pray and pray and then to be ignored. I need a god who will give me the attention I give him. Fair is fair.
Does your god really heal the sick?
This is very important to me given the ever increasing costs of doctors, hospitals, etc. If I worship your god can I cancel my medical insurance? Does your god heal visible physical disabilities and disfigurements that the medical profession cannot heal? I have seen operators like Benny Hinn and Peter Popoff heal invisible illnesses but the god they claim to represent never miraculously restores an amputated limb or makes a genuinely blind person see. I need all-rounder god who can be relied upon to heal all known ailments and disabilities.
Will your god make me a more moral person?
I have never robbed, defrauded, molested, beaten up, raped or murdered anyone and consider myself to maintain a reasonable standard of moral and ethical behaviour. I help others less fortunate than myself when I can. Can you explain what extra moral dimension your god would bring to my life?
Does your god help cheat at sport?
I find it confusing to see sportsmen gathering and praying to a god before a sports competition and then still getting beaten. Is it because the other team prayed harder, prayed to a more effective god, or what? I can see the benefit of a god who would help me play better golf, keep my ball out of the hazards and help the ball into the hole 100% of the time. If your god does that then I can start a new career as a professional golfer tomorrow and be richer than Tiger and Ernie combined.
Can your god protect me from evil?
This is another important consideration as I can then cancel my armed response and household and car insurance. Guaranteed protection would also enable me to take up sky diving, base jumping, cave diving and bull riding as additional pastimes.
Can your god make me rich?
Some preachermen claim that if you listen to them and pay tithes to them that the god they recommend will make people rich. I will be very interested if your god can do that and am prepared to become an investor. But I will need guarantees and proof before I do so.
Will your god make be feel different?
I find a couple of glasses of good red wine improves my life experience immensely. I become great company, tell hilariously funny jokes and everybody loves me. Can passionately believing in your god have the same effect?
Does your god give you winning lotto numbers?
Sorry. Silly question. Because if he did you would be out shopping and not reading godly nonsense on News24.
So there is the challenge. I don't need to now more about your god. I want to know what your god actually and measurably does that could improve my life experience.
