What happens after one passes through the pearly gates .. ?

05 June 2014, 13:46
I find the story of religious fervour Vs atheistic disbelief quite fascinating, I'm not religious but have on the odd occasion attended a church service (and listened patiently whilst family members tried to save me) .. i even tried reading the bible once ... i made it just past "in the beggining..." and fell asleep. im sure most of us have at least read the first page.
I'll keep this short ... there is much ado about the journey to being saved so that we can have entry to heaven and save ourselves from hellfire, bla bla bla .. you know the rest - BUT (and i hope that some wise christian can help me out on this one .. because lets face it ... "in the beginning ..." doesnt really qualify me for a book reading club prize) .. what actually happens when we (well perhaps not me .. but you know what i mean) make it into heaven ... what is heaven like? .. what will we do all day ... where will we buy our groceries etc ... theres always debate about getting into heaven ... but not much info on what people actually do there to while away the time ... now time is the operative word here ... because were talking about eternity - is there some way to stay entertained in heaven rather than having to "smile down and wave" at the damned souls? .. i mean really people ... the Islamic faith has virgins an all that - what incentive are the other religions offering ? ... surely when the God deity said that he wants us in heaven, there might have been an inkling of exactly why that is ? .. is he starting an army? ... does he need slaves? .. what exactly does he want us in heaven for  ? ... please please please let me have the daily schedule and activities of events currently happening in heaven so i can make a more informed choice about how i might best spend my future eternity ! after all eternity is a long time .. and im pretty sure that most of us would soon bore of washing the lords feet ... smiling down on the lost souls burning in hell ... and running through forest glades whilst lambs and lions frolick about in the fields together. I mean .. i don't want to go through all the trouble of being born again - only to find out later that heaven is a crushing bore, and hell would have actually suited me better. no offence intended to any religious groups out there ... but when i google "whats it like in heaven?" .. i come up with .... "Jesus said, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work" (John 5:17). We find this same description of the new heavens and new earth in Revelation 21:1 and Isaiah 65:17. Isaiah describes it as a place of joy where there will be no tears nor the sound of crying. This is in Isaiah 65:19, and also in Revelation 21:4; 7:17. Isaiah continues to show us it will be a place where one can labor and see his labor bear fruit. This is in Isaiah 65:21-23.Just sounds an awful lot like god needs workers ... but for what?
