WHAT IS A BULLY (OR TROLL)
First of all a bully is not the best square tin-with-a-key and beef inside. There are other tins on the shelves but some may be rotten and others beyond their sell by date.
Before we carry on it would be worth while to take note of the following anecdote:
This incident took place 45 years ago so I may have to carry some of the readers. I was in Standard 8 at the time. The school bus used to convey us from Walvis Bay to Swakopmund and back on a daily basis.
Scholars normally sat in the same seat and shared it with friends. Amongst the other passengers were 2 brothers: We will call them Pieter and Dieter. And were of German stock. Dieter was a big and tall guy while his boet was a small and petit sort of fellow who obeyed his brothers orders to the letter. Dieter spent s 2 years in Std 7 while Pieter was still trying to complete std 6 in a single round. Most of the other scholars were afraid of Dieter as he was a real nasty bit of work and a bully, just to name a few attributes.
I seemed to have exceptional trouble with the brothers. Dieter would egg Pieter on to pinch, slap, moer, or, old trick to threaten others with knives etc. any retaliatory action would automatically draw Ou-boet into the fry. That was the desired outcome.
On this particular day I had been roasted by the onnies for not doing the allocated homework and my backside was attacked with a cane ( That was normal) On entering the bus I saw the brothers sitting in my seat, snickering and whispering in a conspiratorial manner. This was too much for me. I marched up to the seat and grabbed Pieter by the shirt front and dealt him a real snot klap. Pieter was jerked out of the seat and into the isle while the packed bus passengers screamed and chanted a popular song of the time: Wooly Booly. Dieter scrambled for the window and I slid in beside him. I grabbed him by the shirt, too and dealt another snot klap. The crowd was shrieking with glee. (Flip side of the seven single was: My baby, baby Balla, Balla.)
Every day after that I invited the two to share my seat which they turned down.
What exactly is a bully or a troll.? From what I can gather is a bully is someone with a psychological problem. He gains pleasure by tormenting others and usually seldom acts openly. He tends to cowardice when opposed by those whom he fears. and seems to display a lack of feeling or display of conscience. Such persons are usually not very intelligent as he can only think in a single dimension and hence cannot communicate properly with others.
TROLL: supernatural creatures that dwell in caves or mountains . And are depicted either as dwarfs or giants. Dragging a lure in the water to catch a fish. COLLINS ENGLISH DICTIONARY (CED) BULLY: FINE FELLOW OR SWAGGERING COWARD.(CED)
