Regular readers of the Daily News need to pause and ponder over what is/are the causes of instability or terrorism in many parts of the world today. We recoiled in horror when Al Shabaab terrorists struck in Nairobi,Kenya as we did when the Pakistan taliban blew up a church in Pershawar,Pakistan and yes, when Boko Haram viciously murdered students in Nigeria recently? Is too facile to put the blame on Islamic fundamentalists, to describe those who use Islam for their own evil machinations, as representing Islam. We need to, and we must address the issue of what is/are the causes, head on, if we are to find a sustainable solution for solutions require consensus and linking the cause/s to religious fundamentalism or intolerance is not the way to deal with this scourge of terrorism that inflicts instability and violent knee jerk reaction as we have witnessed the US raid in Libya when alleged mastermind Liby was snatched by special US forces or the raid against the head of Al Shabab in the coastal city near Mogadishu. I venture to say that when countries act outside the letters of the law and engage in extra judicial conduct as was contemplated against Sudan, the seeds of instability and terrorism germinate and blossom. Currently, as is evident, no one is speaking out against the persecution of Rohingya Muslims allegedly by Buddhists in Myanmar and its very likely when they're sense that the world doesn't give a damn, they will appeal to those who will respond with violence and conduct that brings terror into the narrative of despair. So, I ask, what is the cause of instability and terrorism today?
