What our country needs

11 April 2014, 12:42

Our country needs black intellectuals but what we see in our township especial where I'm coming from or staying "Soweto", you you always feel pity for the youth of today. They dont try and change their setuations as a result most of them are engaged in things that desroy their lifes and are heavyly hook in alcohol.

The most funny thing that I'm not sure of how to try and give them a sound advice is they do it in front of their families and they are not being told the good and the bad of what they are doing.

There are days where people used to blame apartheid which is something of the past and if we are not encouraging our youth to focus on their studies definitely sure people from outside e.g. Chinese as they invest a lot of money in Gauteng, foreigners from Africa will rule this country cause when you notice on many South African tertiary institutions they dominate especial in post graduates.

The thing is they are hungry for success not for booze as what we see in our community. Actually if we can have many role models who will stay in townships may be most of our youth will change their way of seeing things.

I always wanted to change my situation so that I can live a better life tomorrow with or without the help of parents. I had a goal, wish or dream where I told myself that I should break the poverty chane and start my own chane which I'll spoon feed my offspring with education nothing else. If I'm an acadmic its easy to motivate your kids to much better than i, to have higher qualification than what i'll be having.

At the same I realise or notice that the outside world is more powerful than myself, chances of teaching my offspring the way of life are so minimal in such a way that you'll sometimes think of locking your kids inside not  to allow them to be mixed with outside world but that will not be solution.

My wish is for one day to see most of our youth be involved in positive behavoiurs, be proud of who they are, not to try and want to live a life of older poeple as they are going to be older one day. By thinking like this, they will be guaranteed that their offspring will be much better than themselves unlike now.

Its a sure case that only less than 10% of the youth of today will succeed in future and the rest our taxes will have to help them make a living which in unfair to our goverment. This may be the cause of all these protest. People are expecting our government to do a lot for them cause they cant do anything for themselves.

Lets encourage our kids, community and even our older sisters and brothers to try and invest in education but at the same time you cant encourage something that you're not doing, first it has to be you.

Thats why countries like Nigeria are number 1 today in GDP cause the people are investing in government not the other way around. People are not aware that most African countries are jealous of our economy, they wish that they were born this side as there are so many opportunities compared to thier own countries.

When they do get a chance to come this side of the continent they make sure they use that chance and fix their own lifes by breaking the poverty chain, and most of them are doing post graduates studies, others other occupying higher positions than us SouthAfricans while always we are the prefered once but most our qualification dont allow that. As a result they are there once who are mentoring us.
