During November last year, I tried to get into this sport of your's called rugby. Maybe it's just me but I don't get what the game's all about.
I sat through a handful of international games and your local team, called the Springboks, seemed a bit stronger than the teams they played, although the overall performance didn't seem that convincing, truth be told.
Just when I thought I'd seen the last of this rugby thing, now it's all Super Rugby this, Super Rugby that. And it seems I'll once again be subjected to every bar across town showing the live games every freakin weekend for the next few months. Nauseating stuff!
If the game made any sense, I'd probably watch it, but what the hell are 30 guys doing chasing a lopsided ball around like it was the prized golden egg? It's like watching a bargain-bin sale at Macy's where heckling housewives battle it out for the last 3-pack of granny panties.
Now, Grid-Iron Football? That's a real man's game. And don't come with no story about protective padding, blah blah. Those guys are bigger, the game's faster, and that gear is required by the game's laws to ensure the safety of the world's greatest athletes.
I played some football in college myself, had a good half-season too until I put my back out. Kinda affected my love-life too for a while, but Em's not one for lying down and quitting. Life's tough and only the strongest survive. It's the whole Evolution thing with fittest survival and natural election - you'd understand if you knew all that stuff.
So now this Super Rugby nonsense is about to start and I can either try watching again, or just give the rubbish 'sport' a miss completely.
Thank goodness this soccer tournament is on at the moment, I like soccer. Although your team seems a bit clueless to be honest, I'd rather watch paint dry.
Oh my, it's going to be a looooooong three and a half months until I get outta here and back to civilization at the end of April...
