What's worse: Tobacco or Cannabis?

25 February 2014, 15:44

What’s worse Tobacco or Cannabis?

Drugs differ in every level, we have the medical drugs that are legal and we have the illegal ones like cannabis but then again we have the legal ones and they are not for medical purposes and they are the ones with the highest death rate in the world. Killing both the young and the old males and females.

There’s a huge difference between tobacco and cannabis.

Tobacco:
Tobacco is a green, leafy plant that is grown in warm climates. After it is picked, it is dried, ground up, and used in different ways. It can be smoked in a cigarette, pipe, or cigar. It can be chewed (called smokeless tobacco or chewing tobacco) or sniffed through the nose (called snuff) and also flavoured shisha tobacco.
Tobacco consists of nicotine, which is a yellowish oily liquid which is the chief active constituent of tobacco. It acts as a stimulant in small doses, but in larger amounts blocks action of autonomic nerve and skeleton muscles cell. Nicotine is one of the more than  4000 chemicals found in cigarettes. It is the chemical that makes tobacco addictive.
Once you start to smoke, chew or sniff tobacco the nicotine goes to your bloodstream and that will make your body to want more. Since nicotine is a stimulant it speeds up the nervous system so you’ll feel like you have energy it also makes the heart to beat fast and raises high blood pressure.
Tobacco companies exports their production, which maybe cigarettes, chewing tobacco, sniff or cigars to at least 146 countries around the world.

Harmful effects of tobacco and smoking:
-According to the World Health Organization (WHO), tobacco is the single greatest cause of the preventable death globally.
-Causes diseases affecting the heart and the lungs
-Major risk factor for heart attacks, strokes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, and cancer.
-Particularly lung cancer, cancers for the larynx and mouth and also pancreatic cancers.
-And also tuberculosis (TB)

Tobacco is legal because it helps increase the economy of the world or rather countries, even though it puts your health life at risk.

Cannabis:
A tall plant with stiff upright stems, divided serrated leaves and
glandular hairs. It is used to produce hemp fibre and as a
psychotropic drug.
A psychotropic drug is a drug that crosses the blood-brain barrier and acts primarily upon the central nervous system where it affects the brain’s function resulting in alterations in perception, mood, consciousness, cognition and behaviour.
However these substances may be used recreationally to purposefully alter ones consciousness or for ritual, spiritual, and or shamanic purposes. These substance makes the user to find pleasant mostly euphoria and increased alertness.

Cannabis is used in three main forms: marijuana, hashish and hash oil.
•Marijuana: is made from dried flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. It is the least potent of the entire cannabis product and is usually smoked.
•Hashish: is made from the resin (a secreted gum) of the cannabis plant. It is dried and pressed into small balls and smoked, it can also be added to food.
•Hash oil:  the most potent cannabis product, hash oil is thick oil obtained from hashish and it is also smoked.

Most cannabis users don’t use illicit drugs, is not related to risk of
dependence or health impacts. It can be used for mental health, can be protective against the formation of cancer and it has been proven helpful for treating the symptoms of a variety of medical conditions.
The Cannabis side effects may include:
-Feeling of well-being
-Talkativeness
-Drowsiness
-Decreased nausea
-Increased appetite
-Bloodshot eyes

Despite the health risk of tobacco, it is still legal and cannabis is still illegal even though cannabis helps with medical conditions. Yes tobacco is helping in economic growth but it is still killing the citizen and on the other hand cannabis saves and heals rather than killing the majority of those who smoke it.
