One asks yourself when is enough enough? We sit back and accept that our kids do not get their text books to get basic education to build the future of this country, we don't say anything when the money we sweat to earn gets wasted on corruption and we idly stood by as we endured cold nights without electricity and we gawked as they put up neon-lighted ivory towers over our highways, but if you you don't have water for two days... enough is enough!
I live in Buccleuch, Sandton and we have not had water for two days. They scheduled the water-outages for the first day but if the water does not come on the next day, you are in trouble. We can't shower, we can't brush our teeth, we can't make food. We are in the fortunate situation that the companies we work for has showers at work that you can go to before and after work but how about the rest?
I wish I had the facts and I knew who the best friend of the government official is that got the contract to work on the water. This is a service delivery problem for thousands of people that provide millions of rands into the economy annually from a contractor that did not have the best service record, lowest bid or most efficient but was the best connected and in all likelihood the most expensive option… this does not bother me, it’s when they are incompetent that really bugs me.
Have we become a community that accepts lack of service from a government based on who their party used to be and the ideals they have long forgotten? Are we happy with riding on the back of a historical problem that has been reconciled in previous generations? Are we happy to re-elect a government that has failed us what seems like every day? Do we accept the fact that our economy is collapsing because only the outside world can see South Africa has become an economical hazard? Have we accepted that our government does not care about its people?
When is enough enough? When you don’t have water!
