When love failed to listen

05 June 2014, 07:35
Cold winter's day, the train that I normally board arrives and everyone scrabbles and pushes just to find the correct sit for the long journey to our different destinations -- Being the gentleman that I am, I always wait for the elderly and physically challenged to board first, Then quickly follow right behind them.

The train doors slammed shut and we all prepared to leave, and since I had no seat, I grazed for a comfortable place to stand -- Then the journey began. As I was glazing at my phone, catching up on good old conversations with friends on social networks, A lady next to me kept distracting me with her hand gestures, I tried my best to ignore her but a part of me said, "Look at her". Now, I'm a young man who's had his fair share dating experiences and conversed with ladies that only existed in my dreams, However, No Dream or Experience could've prepared me for what I saw -- My Nubian African queen was right there in-front of me. So, I put on my "game" face and chatted away, without allowing her to say a word or even tell me her name. She patiently waited for me to finish talking, and with a smile, she slowly pointed at her beautiful ears, for a second I felt she was trying to tell me to "listen", But she was trying to tell me that she's deaf. Yes, I spent 5 minutes talking to my 'queen', and all she heard was my voice making a total nuisance of itself.

I took it upon myself to translate what I had said to her on my phone, and I gave her the phone -- She quietly read it and smiled. She cleared the text and replied, "Hi, my name is Thandi" (Yes! My queen has a name). Our conversation went on and on, and she humbly asked for my cellphone numbers, so we could continue with our conversation later on. She then bid her friends farewell and then signaled that she would be in-touch to me.

I couldn't wait for evening to come, I patiently waited for her to send the text -- Immediately after I had finished, She sent the long awaited text and it read; "Hi, Its Thandi, Is this Prince?", I replied with a jubilant smile; "Yes, this is he" (Trying to sound Shakespearean). She quickly replied; "It was great meeting you today", And as I was preparing to knock her off her feet with a sonnet like response, She sent another text saying; " You seem like a very nice person, I was just disappointed with the fact that you hardly listened to me and wanted to be the one saying something. Allow me to tell you my story, this week has been a terrible week for me, both of my parents passed on and I've been alone and lost since then. I was in the process of telling my friends what I have been going through, when you unknowingly interrupted us. I had thought you would listen to me, and somehow talk me out of committing suicide tonight, but you didn't. I write this now, as to let you know that, I drank a very lethal combination of poisons 15 minutes ago, and they should start taking effect very soon. You had a chance to talk me out of it and save my life, but you failed to LISTEN, I loved you and love loved you too, I just wish you could've LISTENED to LOVE when it spoke to you.

P.S.
Till we meet again, Thandi
