Where did Christians get their modern Super-God from?

21 December 2013, 14:14

Yahweh is the God of the Jews and creator of heaven and earth. Christians try to tone down the problem of Yahweh’s all too human form, claiming that God is a spirit that does not have any form, and only APPEARS as  a human form. Unfortunately this is not what the Bible teaches.

In the bible, Yahweh is described as looking just like a male human. In the book of Exodus, we find literal references to Yahweh’s face (Ex 33:20); his backside (Ex 33:23); his hands and fingers (Ex 31:18); his feet (Ex 24:10-11)Yahweh presumably also has a nose with which to smell the pleasant aromas of burning flesh, (Gen 8:21; Lev 1:9,13,17; 26:31)

We know of Yahweh’s human form because we find Yahweh is indeed restricted by his body/form, we find him needing to rest in order to be refreshed (Gen 2:1-3;); having to travel to obtain information and to verify reports (Gen 3:8-11, 11:5-7);He is found needing to test people to discern their beliefs, intentions and motives (Gen 22; Deut 8:2; 2 Chron32:31.); being forced to act based on a fear of human potential (Gen 3:22;11:5-7);

Yahweh is wise but not omniscient and makes use of councilors (1Kgs 22:20-23; Is 6:3-; Jer 23: Ps 82:1, 89:5; Job 1:6) and intelligence services that spy on the subjects in order to ascertain their loyalty (Job 1-2; Zech 3), and desiring assistance in some matters (Judg 5:23; Isa 63:3-5); the inhabitants of Yahweh’s’ abode eat and dress too (Ps78:25; Ezek 9:2; Dan 10:5;).

Why would Yahweh need to travel to verify information if he was an omnipresent spirit?  Why would Yahweh need to rest if he were a spirit? Do spirits need to eat and get dressed? And why would an omnipresent, omnipotent spirit require assistance?

Strangely, the ideas Yahweh entertains about reality are the same as the superstitious people who worshiped him.

For example: Yahweh himself believes that the landmass of the earth floats on water (Deut 5:8;also Ps 24:2)and that there is literally a place underground where the dead live as shades according to their nationalities (Num 16:23-33; Dt 32:22; Jb 38:16-17; Is 7:11; Ezek26:19-20; 32:18-32; Am 9:2).

Yahweh also believes in mythical creatures, (Is 30:6; Lev 17:7; Isa 34:14; Am 9:3; etc.). He even assumes that thoughts arise from the heart and emotions from the kidneys (Jer 17:10).

But there is more that seems rather absurd. Yahweh is very concerned about keeping his name secret (Gen 32:29; Ex 6:3; Judg 16; etc.)Yahweh limits his direct and personal contact with the general population and, for the most part, prefers to act through intermediaries, agents, messengers and armies. He enjoys and demands being feared (Ex 20:19-20, Job 38-41).

A favorite form of transportation for Yahweh are horse-drawn chariots (2 Kgs 2:11-12, 6:17; Zech 6:1-8). Yahweh also needs an army whose weapon of choice is the sword (Gen 3:22-24.;Josh 5:13-15;). The ram’s horn was a popular musical instrument in Yahweh’s abode (Ex19:16) and the inhabitants of heaven eat bread/meat? And dress in pure white linen (Ps78:25; Ezek 9:2; Dan 10:5; etc.). Yahweh even engages in writing on scrolls (the “book” of life in Ex 32:32; Dan 7:10; 10:21).

To appreciate the impossibility of this state of affairs, take the time to reflect on the historically temporary and culturally relative nature of objects like scrolls, horse-drawn chariots, swords, dresses of linen and shofars.

Humans themselves designed or invented these objects that Yahweh uses. Many of these artifacts have fallen into disuse. Yet if the Old Testament texts are to be believed, in Yahweh’s sky-palace, things like shofars, swords, chariots, etc have been around forever and will be for evermore.

As man discovered more and found explanations for the unknown, Yahweh lost his “believability”. Explanations of the natural forced the new Christian God to go super natural, or end up like Zeus, discarded into the old myths bin.

Christians moved their God to outside of our universe and time to an incomprehensible spiritual dimension. Yahweh also took on the form of a spirit sometimes, however He was still a form/shape, unlike the new shapeless, formless ever present Christian God.

Numbers 12:8 -- “With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the FORM of the LORD.”

Job 4:15-17 -- “A spirit glided past my face…….. A FORM stood before my eyes...”

The new super natural Christian God is claimed to be a loving God. Super God wants personal relationships with all of mankind; he communicates with many and no longer just uses only his chosen intermediaries. Super God needs no rest.

Yahweh is a simple old tribal god, only concerned about the local affairs of his chosen people. His laws and actions, although blood thirsty and horrific to modern day man, are powerful, admirable and totally acceptable to the bronze aged Israelite s who worship Him.

Super God does not punish mankind as Yahweh did. Yahweh punished his chosen people to get them to NOT turn away from him. The Old Testaments Yahweh also appears ignorant of the Super Gods specially prepared place to torture unforgiven sinners for eternity.

The fact is - that when it comes to believing in Yahweh, the majority of Christians are atheists.

The many varying Christian “explanations” and reinterpretation of Yahweh is nothing more than a strategy of evasion by people who cannot admit to themselves that they too no longer find it possible to believe in Yahweh.

My question to Christians is:

Where did you get your modern Christian God from? For if Yahweh didn’t really exist. How can God?
