I don’t know about some of you guys, sorry people, guys would be anti-feminist and all, but I’m getting really annoyed by the amount of White Privilege, Male Privilege, Privileged Privilege nonsense going around on here in both article form and on the comments sections, so today is as good a day as any to express MY opinion that it is in fact utter bollo…. nonsense (it would be wrong to use male genitals as the basis for anything as that might also be sexist).
Firstly, these proponents of privilege be it white or male or white male, are very quick to say that its purpose is not to make you feel bad but to open a debate on so called privilege. Except that it’s not a debate, because anyone who is perceived as privileged has their opinion discounted as they are privileged and therefore cannot ever possibly be entitled to an opinion or possibly understand hardship or have suffered some kind of persecution.
So firstly it’s not a debate or an attempt to open eyes, it’s an attempt to enforce your world view on another without allowing them the right of rebuttal.
To the uneducated or perhaps ignorant mind I guess there could be instances where you might jump to the wrong conclusion, for example the white guy gets the job over the black guy or woman with the same qualifications its white privilege right? Well what if unbeknown to you the two attended the same school, or belong to the same religion or are family…this is called cronyism or nepotism.
What about the coloured who is payed more than his more qualified black coworkers but has been at the company 5 years longer and helped start it... racism right? These have nothing to do with race or gender but because it is acceptable to generalize about a whole race or sex in these idiotic theories, as no other explanations can be tolerated, this is because all white people especially the men, are one massive homogeneous, monolingual, monocultural mass sent to oppress everyone. By no means do white people have different conflicting groups who don’t get on and wouldn’t help each other out, it’s a ridiculous judgment based on race….isn’t there a special word for that?
Of course merit has nothing to do with getting into a privileged position. I find it really funny when proponents of these idiotic theories use the example of the BEE candidate who has to work extra hard to prove that he hasn’t got there because of race, as an indicator of white privilege but at the same time have no qualms in suggesting that the white guy got there because of his race…I didn’t know merit only applied to those of colour!!
Other such idiotic examples used involved pool tables and the white ball being the standard and having to sink the black ball or some such nonsense… what the hell?... sure you might be able to argue there are so called white and black people, even spotty people but I’ve sure never ever seen a person with stripes how in the hell does that apply to anything!
Another one I enjoy is the copy and paste section about being overly scrutinized by security in stores if you are black….but wait in South Africa most security guards are black, so are we saying that black people enforce white privilege against themselves? Or maybe it is just the security guard’s job to make sure that nobody of any race steals anything and that he watches everyone, of course demographics would mean that clearly he watches more black people than white people because there are more! In any case watching people isn’t a crime, a bit weird maybe yes, if he doesn’t apprehend you for stealing what difference does it make anyway, if I go dressed sloppily into an upmarket NEF funded boutique I’m sure the security guards are going to check me out, how does my white privilege work then?
In another glaring flaw with these types of arguments is that they assume that White men need to keep people of colour and women down to maintain their positions of wealth and power. Surely a company who employs the best candidates will perform better than one that doesn’t and therefore will give the company owner more wealth and more power.
Surely if all the people of colour also had more wealth then the less tax white people, well in fact everyone, would have to pay. Of course more people with more disposable income means more spending, more jobs more wealth, so it is in everybody’s interest to have everybody as wealthy as possible even black people and women. Suggestions that some group has to be kept down for another to succeed hark back to a time when we believed there was only a fixed amount of wealth in the world, which evidently isn’t true!
So are you honestly telling me that white people or men’s main aim is to rather to keep women and people of colour under control at the expense allowing more wealth and privilege to be created and making EVERYONE especially themselves, better off….that makes no sense whatsoever.
Far from trying to start a debate these White Privilege morons are actually trying to further their own self-interest or protect the advantages they have such as BEE for example. If they were truly truly against racism then surely they would be advocating a paradigm shift away from the language of racial classification, an idiotic concept in itself, to something where we judge people on the content of their character and actions rather than their race or sex.
There’s an old saying along the lines of don’t judge a man (possibly that should be person but you know male privilege and all) until you’ve walked a mile in his moccassins, basically unless you’ve had that individual’s life experiences you shouldn’t judge them, which cuts both ways people for the privileged and the non-privileged.
Of course none of these debates are at all attempts to distract us from the really pressing issues such as quality education, crime and corruption, infrastructure, unemployment, failed governmental policy etc!
