With Sandy Hook and Oscar Pistorius all in the recent news. Calls for more discussion of gun control has surfaced something that has bothered me and I simply cannot understand. I'll use the USA as an example because it becomes obvious of the power of firearm owners if only they would use their power correctly.
In the USA some 80% of households have a firearm in them. A vast majority of citizens own firearms for very good reasons when they are given the freedom of choice and necessity.
That clearly shows the potential power of firearm owners to win any battle against gun control.
But what are the facts. Prior to the Sandy Hook School shooting some 50% of US citizens supported more strict firearm laws. Only 11% less restrictive laws. (Galup poll)
Now the shocking, unpublished and unrecognised part, some 89% of the US population supports gun control. While it may well be one of “degree” and I'm pretty sure many will object and “claim” they do not, that would be a lie. There are no degrees to a right, either you have the right or you do not. You cannot partially own property. Either it is yours or it is not. It is like trying to claim you are only a little bit pregnant.
With all the firearm organisations and money those organisations have how come 98% of the population supports gun control and that includes the vast majority of firearm owners? What are firearm organisations doing about that?
All I see is they are trying to sell more guns or membership and pretend a firearm is the right to defend your life and to freely choose to own any firearm suitable for defence without hindrance or control of government.
How many gun control supporters do you know who support firearm ownership and who will fight for firearm ownership rights?
How many firearm owners do you think will protect or fight for firearm ownership rights if they support gun control?
Do firearm owners and those who support the right to life, self-defence, liberty and freedom not realise you cannot be a little bit pregnant or do their organisations deliberately foster and promote gun control in the belief gun control can be appeased or negotiated with? That a right is still retained when government decides who it applies to and controls this so-called right.
I wonder which part of their body they would be prepared to negotiate with and lose to appease something in the hopes it will be all that is needed?
