Why I'm voting DA

28 February 2014, 09:29

This is going to be short and sweet.

I am a young black South African woman. My parents worked really hard so that I could live a sheltered life and get the best education they could afford. Growing up, I had medical aid, it was normal for me to have medical aid, I didn’t realise it was a privilege. Now that I’m paying for medical aid monthly, I realise that this is a real privilege that many haven’t been awarded.

South Africa has some of the best doctors in the world working in the state hospitals but sadly the WORST service in the world (I’m convinced even Zimbabwe has better service).

My friend had to go to the hospital yesterday because of her arthritis and because she doesn’t have medical aid she had to go to Helen Joseph Hospital. My dear friend was so angry, she was seething. Hateful words were spilling out of this woman mouth. She arrived at the hospital at 08:00 and was only assisted at 13:00 and that was just to get a card. She tells me the nurses were just sitting there chatting away, drinking tea and getting fatter by the minute. They had no regard for the sick people who needed to see doctors. These nurses, who are women by the way, just watched as a child sat there shivering. These are women, aren’t we supposed to be nurturers? How can you sit there and just watch a sick child and not help that child? What kind of woman does that?

The only reason why I’m voting DA is because I’m hoping this woman Helen will bring about the change that is needed in this country. This isn’t about bashing the ANC, this is about CHANGE. People who work in state hospitals are paid by the tax money of the patients they don’t have time to assist. They have medical aid that is paid for by the “peasants” they have no patience for. Their children get to go to private doctors and are given the best service because the very South Africans they look don’t want to help, wake up every morning to work and get taxed.

Helen, please dear woman win Gauteng if you can’t get the whole country. Hire a competent minister of health to go into the state hospitals and see what’s going on and see how the people are being treated. Train the nurses!!! Train the doctors!!! Train ALL public service employees. Fire the nurses who don’t know what a nurse is supposed to do.

Young girls are too scared to go to clinics to get prevention pills and condoms because they fear being sworn at by the nurses. This is why we have so many teenage pregnancies and this is why HIV is rife amongst the youth. Children are going to have sex weather we want them to or not, so they should be allowed to go to the clinics to get protection for themselves without being called names by fat, miserable, mean nurses!!! It is their RIGHT!!! I’m paying for your salary women, so do your jobs. You’re not there to judge, you’re there to assist. Often times these young girls are too afraid to tell their own mothers, you nurses need to be a place of safety for these girls.

I’m rambling I know, but I’m angry with the public service in this country. This is the ONLY reason I’ll be voting DA, no other. I’m hoping a woman will bring about the change that we so desperately need in this country, the boys don’t seem to care.

VIVA HELEN VIVA!!!

Sorry, I meant to keep it short and sweet.
