Why does one pay a TV license?

19 February 2014, 07:19

I say, it took a lot of thinking to write you this letter, which I believe you would find as one of the dumbest ever you ought to read, from a cretin supposedly.

Every day I get a message that annoys me, that of paying my “TV License,” supposedly as the right thing to do, as your slogan goes. I also believe it is the right thing to do.

But to start with, I am grappling with the reality of having to a TV license while I subscribed to a pay-per-view model of the DSTV, whose package is inclusive of your package (SABC channel 1, 2 and 3). This means that one is charged twice. The best choice between a TV license and pay-per-view models would be a three-tier one. That is, SABC TV license (supposedly for those who cannot afford pay-per-view), exclusive pay-per-view (with an exclusion of the SABC channels) and the hybrid one, inclusive of both, which is currently the one DSTV uses.

This would give one sense of why he or she pays a TV license. Moreover, it would help the SABC to manage its finances more responsibly.
