"Why don't you move out of that "SHIT" hole?"
I can’t recall how many times I have heard those words uttered over the last 10 years when talking on social media sites about South Africa. It always amazes me on how ignorant some people are when they say that. They seem to think none of us have families or jobs or the fact that this is all we know. I would like to request the following the next time you want to tell me to leave this “Shit” hole.
- Will you provide me with between R15000 to R20000 to fly out of this “shit” hole? While you at it please pay for my mother, father and brother to come with as obviously I won’t leave my family behind to suffer whilst I’m living the high life in a first world country. Obviously I don’t have the cash otherwise I would have been out of here long ago.
- Please find all of the jobs that pay the same if not more over there than what we currently have in South Africa.
- Please provide us with accommodation, if possible the same that we are use to in South Africa where most properties are very spacious and have big yards to braai in.
For an average size family the above will roughly cost R64000 in flights. To find accommodation for a family will probably cost R5000 to R6000 a month. Above that you will need a month or two to find a job that pays half from the one you had in South Africa. All your friends and everything you know are left behind in your old country. As an adult how do you move away from everything you know? Friends and family are affected as well as you won’t see them ever again?
The next time you want to say something stupid like “MOVE OUT OF THAT SHIT HOLE” maybe consider that there are reasons it hasn’t been done till you amazingly came up with the concept. If you are willing to pay for everything stated above, then please be sure to say it straight after you tell me to get out of this “shit” hole so I can thank you for your words of wisdom as well as your very charitable donation.
Maybe I complain a lot and maybe this isn't the best place to live in the world but with that being said it's the only place I know and I love my country. South Africa is a majestic and beautiful place with some severe 3rd World Problems. I just hope one day that it will get resolved and become a place where the good outweigh the bad.
