Why our education is non-progressive!!

04 September 2013, 15:57

Having read and met many graduates who were all hell-bent to rather look for a job than to create one, I realised that it was not their fault.

I say we must change our tertiary education system such that when you study something it becomes a hobby. The current system of tertiary education, which I have refused and rejected, is based on a capitalist approach and is non-progressive. I believe that it is a deliberate plot to fail this country.

If we were to do away with additional subjects which are forced down our throats, this country would produce specialists. Currently we produce generalist graduates. In some instances many of them cannot put together a decent CV or application letter.

Why must a person who wants to do a degree in HR or IT add an extra 10 or 8 subjects to get their degree? It is purely because of some author somewhere also has to make money!!!

This reminds me of my high school days when some chose to study Bibs (Biblical Studies)!! What a waste!!!

We must do away with additional subjects so that one can focus on what they really want to become and excel in that department. In this way you have time to be creative with what you are studying and not worry about having to pass additional useless subjects!

The high rate of university drop-outs will also decrease!

I know this model was used at Technikons, but I think it's time we re-introduce it at universities!!!

The capitalists must find another way of making money... They must give a student a very good reason to take up their subjects and become specialist in that field.

Only through this will this country become effecient and progressive!!!

Why I love Cambodia’s capital

There are so many reasons to hate Cambodia’s bite sized capital of Phnom Penh. Open sewers, naked children, piles of burning garbage on every street. Its a dirty, smelly, noisy amalgam. But Phnom Penh grows on you and by the time you leave it will occupy a special place in your heart. Read more...
