With our top athletes doing so well this past weekend Amla getting 311 not out and Ernie winning the Open it upsets me what with so talent in SA that we don’t send our best to the Olympics.
There have already been two top Athletes been excluded, Cyclist Cherise Standeris the current South African and Africa time-trial champion and 2nd woman on the Union Cycliste International (UCI) points list, and Greg Shushu was responsible for Team SA earning a single lifter’s spot for the games. There is also Simon Magakwe who has missed out.
Here we have another athlete who has worked extremely hard to qualify for the Olympics, been the top rated event horse rider in SA yet got passed up for someone who and is ranked much lower down in the rankings.
Here is a link from Alex Peternell who won his case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

“On Saturday 21 July, the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the appeal of 4* event rider Alexander Peternell against the decision not to select him as the South African individual event rider for the London 2012 Olympics. Alexander Peternell is the highest ranked South African rider in the FEI Olympic Rider Rankings who has qualified for the Olympics.
Under the terms of the court's decision, the original selection of Mr Paul Hart (ranked 442 with 5 points) is set aside. The only rider that SASCOC can now select to compete is Mr Peternell (ranked 164 in the world, with 76 points). SASCOC have yet to confirm their new selection decision.”
Let’s hope that that SASCOC will act quickly to confirm their decision to ensure that we have another chance to being home some more medals.
Hopefully those who are responsible for this have the book thrown at them.
