As I read the story about how Oscar has gotten an American forensics team to join his legal team in the murder trial of Reeva Steenkamp, it became very clear that the state or prosecution have one hell of a mission ahead of them as Oscar is clearly willing to do and pay whatever it takes to stay out of prison. So far it has of cause worked for him as he was granted bail to the surprise of many including the Steenkamps. Lady Justice is supposedly blind and so we’ve been taught, but perhaps that is the problem right there. Oscar’s public status has also worked tremendously for him as the fact that he is well known all over the world played a crucial role in his bail hearing. He has now been granted seven months to prepare his case for which trial commences on the 3rd of March 2014. I believe that this will be more than ample time for Oscar and his team to pull and put together everything possible to ensure his freedom. Money and influential friends will definitely play a huge role in here, in both an above board and not manner.
It is a huge concern of mine how much of the attention has been focused on Oscar Pistorius in contrast to the family who have lost their daughter and sister. Spin doctors from the blade runner’s team are obviously doing all that they can to control the perception of the public and the fact that Oscar is still one of the world’s best athletes in the world and has made this country proud on a number of occasions is their best bet. The next determining question would then be how far or how much is the state willing to go or pay to ensure a conviction as it is very clear that Pistorius is willing to pay whatever it takes. I believe in our justice system not by choice but because I am a law abiding citizen and am sure that I speak for many others and perhaps including the Steenkamps, and so we would then have to live with whatever the outcome in this case.
It will surely be one of the biggest if not the biggest court cases of our time and the world will be watching every step of the way. Oscar’s defence team will pull out all the stops to win this one for him and will do all they can to discredit as many of the state witnesses as they can. The fact here still remains that a human life was lost due to the actions of another individual whose intentions at the time are what this case is all about. With the only other person who was present during the incident being six feet under, Oscar’s team now very well that proving beyond a reasonable doubt that it was premeditated murder is not going to be easy for the state and therefore they see reason to put up a fight with all weapons drawn.
