Will Pistoriuos be Victorious

28 March 2014, 12:54

As we all wait with bated breath to see which angle or direction the defence will take in the Oscar Pistorious murder trial, it is certain that this has thus far been a historical time in both SA and globally. In fact possibly the biggest news in SA for the past decade after the death of Madiba. Many of us not able to watch the proceedings live on television on a daily because of work find ourselves on the news24 website now more than ever before. I find it fascinating how so many have benefited from what is rather a tragedy for both the Steenkamp and the Pistorious families. The broadcasting of the trial has without a doubt been entertainment on steroids where you are likely to miss a special moment should you blink. Not only entertainment, but it has also given us a very well educated view of the South African justice system and what it means to be on trial for murder in SA.

With many legal experts predicting that the defence will put Oscar on the stand as their first witness, media lawyers are hard at work as they have submitted an application to secure broadcasting rights of the blade runners’ testimony. Should the application be successful, this will definitely be the  tip of the iceberg in this trial so far considering the fact that he is the only breathing witness who was present in the house during the incident. It would be really interesting to hear it from the horse’s mouth contrary to what we have heard  thus far in the trial. One of the main characters in this trial the defence’s lead advocate Barry Roux has become a household name overnight with his distinct style of cross examining with phrases that have become a very popular part of culture. He is without a doubt my favourite character in this “reality show” as he has proven over and above that that he is one of the best in the game having successfully created doubt in many of our minds on what may have initially seemed to be simple and straight forward facts.

The main question still remains indeed, how will it all eventually turn out? I believe that should Oscar get anything less than a life sentence, then his defence team has certainly done a sterling job. I am no legal expert, but I believe I am a very logical person and based on what we have heard I think it’s going downhill for Oscar. We are expecting Roux and gang to pull a rabbit out of a hat to secure this one for their client. I guess at the end of it all, we will just have to have faith in our justice system and just believe that the right thing will be done. Until then, we will keep on watching very closely and enjoying each and every second of the show. I pray and hope that it only gets better from here onwards
